SPARTANBURG | The morning session of the Carolina Coaches Combine at Spartanburg High School saw a bunch of performances that created a stir.
There was nothing quite as buzz-worth as when word filtered outside that a participant had recorded 40 reps at 185 pounds on the bench press.
It was a combine-record 41, actually. And Greenwood’s Robert Stevens‘ mark was just one of a handful of marks that set the tone for the rest of the morning.
In the measurables portion of the event, Stevens’ mark was a highlight, but there were plenty of others. Chapman’s Shamon Black Shamon Black 5'9" | 165 lbs | DB Chapman | 2025 State SC set two marks, winning the broad jump with a leap of 10 feet, 2 inches and turning in the fastest 40-yard dash of the morning in 4.39 seconds. Black’s fast-twitch measurables are ideal for his spot as a big-play receiver for the Panthers, but his skill set on Sunday morning was on the other side of the ball. Black showed his prowess in coverage, locking down the award for Defensive Skill competitors as well.
In other measurables awards, J.L. Mann’s Keyshun Henderson Keyshun Henderson 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR JL Mann | 2025 State SC won the vertical jump with a mark of 31.1 inches, and Woodruff’s Hunter West turned in the quickest pro shuttle of the morning in a time of 4.18 seconds.
In the positional awards, a pair of Gaffney Indians came away with hardware. Jamarcus Smith Jamarcus Smith SC was rated as the top offensive skill player of the morning session, while teammate Shedrick Sarratt Shedrick Sarratt 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Gaffney | 2025 State SC (pictured) brought home MVP honors among the 2025s.
Crescent’s Jake Duncan Jake Duncan 6'1" | 300 lbs | DL Crescent | 2025 State SC was outstanding, claiming the offensive line award, while Dorman’s Keenan Arcega-Whiteside was the outstanding offensive combo player in the morning session.
Wren’s Cam Sanders took defensive line honors, while Spartanburg’s Peyton Jones Peyton Jones 5'10" | 185 lbs | LB Spartanburg | 2025 State SC won the defensive combo award.
Daniel’s Bruce Bowen won top specialist in an intense battle for the spot that came down to a single kick, while Greer’s Eduardo Garcia came away with the leadership award.
