We had plenty of guys rise the rankings and put some impressive stuff on tape this fall staking their claim in our updated rankings. I doubled the number of prospects covered in the rankings and it now features several athletes committed to USports or NCAA programs.
The prospects below all made strong progress in their games. Their most recent film showcases different skillsets that have developed throughout their career and it comes to no surprise that they are not only some of the top prospects in Canada but will be playing at the next level.
Nick Garcia Nick Garcia 6’4″ | 220 lbs | DL Cardinal Newman | 2024 State CAD made one of the biggest jumps in our rankings moving up 56 spots and finalizing the top 10. Garcia added bulk and strength to his game showcasing the ability to physically dominate his opponents. He was a high-impact player on both sides of the ball and excelled as a stand-up edge prospect. Garcia made progress athletically but as a defender showed much more refined use of hands and more discipline holding contain on the edge. Garcia is a talented prospect who will play for McMaster at the next level.
MacCubbin, the #1 overall athlete in the class is a special talent who has the skill set that translates to the next level. MacCubbin rises from 45 to the 12 spot and makes the jump to #1 at his position. MacCubbin who will play at Guelph next season is listed as a WR but has the athleticism and ball skills that he could have played on either side of the ball at the next level. MacCubbin is a smooth athlete who shows burst and change of direction in open space. He is effective at lining up at multiple positions offensively and has the versatility and athleticism that makes him one of the most dangerous players in the country.
Uguak jumped up 39 spots in the latest ranking and the Harry Ainlay defensive tackle prospect was a strong physical force on the inside showcasing why he was one of the best defensive linemen in the country. Uguak has a great bend and plays with really good pad level and violent quick hands. Uguak has some impressive defensive tackle film and I like how hard he plays and finishes plays with violence and physicality. Uguak’s strong senior tape jumps him to the top tier of a very impressive class of defensive linemen in Canada.
Oskar McPhie Oskar McPhie 6’3″ | 180 lbs | DB South Delta | 2024 State CAD jumped up 73 sports and the DB prospect from British Columbia. McPhie is a dynamic athlete showing burst and long speed on tape with the ability to turn INTs and Returns into TDs and big yard gains. McPhie has great ball skills and his ability to locate and impact the catch point from the safety position is at a high level. As a tackler, McPhie is not afraid to come down hill and make plays, he shows good closing speed and the ability to play inside the box.
DeGroot is a massive OL prospect at 6’5 290lbs and will be playing with Saskatchewan at the next level. DeGroot has elite length and a lean frame that defenders struggle to deal with. DeGroot has really good athleticism and almost moves like he is a tight end. His ability to knock guys back with his initial punch and maintain control of his blocks with length will translate to the next level and DeGroot showed throughout this past season in his film that he is one of the most talented prospects and has a special combination of size and athleticism. His play this season jumped him up 29 spots to #41.
Lausch a physical defensive tackle prospect jumps up to #42 in our rankings. Lausch showed in his senior tape high-level upfield burst and the bend/flexibility to change direction and finish plays in the backfield. Lausch shows the ability to impact the run game eating blocks and using his lower body strength to maintain his gap responsibilities while showing the quickness and hand usage to be an impactful pass rusher from the interior. Lausch will be playing for Waterloo at the next level and is a prospect who I think will be a very impactful player at the next level.
