Continue ReadingThe sophomore QB showed that he can be The guy under center for Wise and continue to reach their Championship standard. Wedge threw for just shy of 1,000 yards with 930 yards, and 15 passing touchdowns. On the ground he had 16 rushes for 3 touchdowns giving him 18 total touchdowns on the season. One stat that really sticks out to me is 0 interceptions on the season, which plays a big part in offensive success for any team. Already at 6’2, size won’t be a concern during his recruitment or evaluation; in the pocket he gets the ball out quick and has a consistent rhythm. His timing and accuracy allow his receivers to have the space to make those big plays after the catch.
Another Sophomore, Parker, was a spark plug for the Pumas this past season. Parker made plays on the ground and through the air with 7 rushes for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns, and a few receptions. He was a weapon on special teams using his speed to blow past defenders. He finished the season with 417 return yards and 1 punt return for a touchdown. Parker has a skillset that is dangerous on the perimeter and in open field, and Wise does a good job of putting him in position to showcase his skills. With the loss of a few senior recievers lookfor Parker to get alot more opportunities to create bigpays.
On the defensive side of the ball, we have 2025 LB Tyvon Callaway Tyvon Callaway 6’0″ | 200 lbs | LB Wise | 2025 State MD who was a sophomore standout at Oxon Hill in 2022. This season he did not disappoint playing part in the Pumas defensive success. He recorded 49 tackles with 5 TFL’s, 3 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble, and 2 interceptions with one being in the state championship. I believe Wise has him in the perfect position at Outside backer, he has the size and athleticism to contain the perimeter against scrambling QB’s and chase down ball carriers’ sideline to sideline. After getting accustomed during the championship run, next to a highly touted linebacker prospect in Decarlos Young Decarlos Young 5’11” | 225 lbs | ATH Wise | 2025 State MD , look for his production to increase in 2024, that tandem could give offenses nightmares.
Jackson finished second in the sack column for the Pumas with 5, recorded 30 tackles and 7 TFL’s. He showed some glimpses of what could come in 2024. With his 6’2 frame he wins the leverage battles and uses power moves to get blockers hands off.
Nelson put on an offensive clinic this season in the run game and as a receiver. On the ground he has breakaway speed and accelerates dangerously fast, but despite his speed elusiveness and 180lb frame he runs with an attitude. He always breaks the first tackle, shows aggressiveness with his stiff arms and can run clean through tackles when he lowers his shoulder. Nelson has been impressing scouts since his freshmen year at wcac power good counsel, he’s on track to lead Wise to another state championship appearance next season.
