Malachi Wilt Malachi Wilt 6'0" | 195 lbs | QB Verrado | 2026 State AZ , QB, Tonopah Valley ’26
Wilt put up massive numbers this year as he was the #1 ranked passing yards leader in 2A with over 4,400 yards. Along with his monster yardage, he threw for 49 TD’s to establish himself as one of the best 2A players in the state as only a sophomore. Wilt looked the part this past fall, but the scary part is he is only showing us a glimpse of what he is capable of doing. This kids holds tremendous upside moving forward and should definitely be a kid to know here in the spring.
Kaleb Burras, QB, Heritage Academy Laveen ’25
Burras was the definition of a dual-threat QB during his Jr. year, rushing for nearly 1,500 yards and 23 TD’s. A sure big play threat every time he takes off and can urn defenses with his vision, bounce, and pure top end speed. He still has room to progress as a passer, but I anticipate he’ll do just that this fall. However, that doesn’t mean you have to underestimate his arm, as he has numerous throws on film displaying a lightning quick release with good zip and the ability to hit a far side deep out. Really looking forward to seeing how Burras plays here as we creep closer to the season.
Caleb Randall Caleb Randall 5'9" | 165 lbs | LB Scottsdale Christian | 2025 State AZ , LB, Scottsdale Christian ’25
Randall returns as the reigning tackle leader in 2A from last season, as he totaled 181 total tackles which included 9 TFL’s and 2 sacks, while also adding a clutch INT in the playoffs against Pima. He’s a smart, fast, instinctual player with excellent range and is your textbook tackler. I love his low pad level with a nice drive and lift to explode through opponents and frequently finish the play. He could really be that roamer, fly around guy at the next level already in my opinion, as he plays bigger and stronger than his listed size at 5’9″ 165lbs. Fearless, physical player with tons of upside moving forward.
Thaine Cook, LB, Camp Verde ’25
Camp Verde had a stellar 9-3 season and had one of the most explosive offenses in 2A last year, but nobody seems to be talking about some of their players on D. As a junior, Cook led the team in tackles with 150 total (101 solo), 8 TFL’s, 3.5 sacks, and an INT. Fearless, fly around kid that always seems to stick his nose in every play and won’t back down from contact no matter the size of the opponent. Compact kid at 5’8″ 170lbs but he’ll go head up with anyone. Coach Gronwald had a ton of praise for Cook when I talked to him, and I think we could see Cook land a huge role and make some noise for camp Verde here this fall.
Matthias Montijo, ATH, Holbrook ’26
The sophomore held a big role last season, and played much more mature than his class. Dynamic kid that showed the early ability to be a difference maker on both sides of the ball. Primarily utilized at RB and LB. Montijo possesses competitive toughness and has that gritty play style you can’t teach. He rushed for over 1,200 yards and 8 TD’s, and he had 7 games where he broke for over 700 yards or more. Defensively, he totaled 49 tackles with 6 TFL’s. Montijo played a major key in the success of Holbrook’s 7-3 season, and is definitely a kid that could have a breakout year here in 2024.
