This past Sunday the top 7on7 programs in the Greater St. Louis area clashed for bragging rights and the opportunity to hoist up the 2024 Show Me Shootout Champions trophy. Former NFL receiver and High School coach Chris Brooks led his young team (huSTL City) to an unblemished record coming into the last game versus a formable opponent in the TeamTakeOver squad led by Coach Five who tallied one win the day before. Both teams are loaded with promising ability and playmakers. huSTL City stayed out the losing column the whole tournament finishing with a 21-14 victory and some hardware to ride back home with. Here army my top performers from the series.

huSTL City

Ja'Khori Battle, Quarterback- 11 year old with good ball placement and mobility. Took instruction well and made adjustments each game to get ball to his playmakers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1270501' first='Amari' last='Roberts'], ATH- 12 year old with good size and sure hands. Made an impact on both sides of the ball making strong catches to and creating turnovers on defense.

Alonzo Harris, Receiver/Safety- 12 year old who knows how to get out of the top of his routes and separate. Consistently caught nose of ball away from body. Possessed a little wiggle after catch as well. Scored multiple times in games.

Eli Ferguson, Cornerback/Receiver- 11 year old with a high ceiling and IQ. Had three interceptions in one game. Breaks on ball well and trusts his feel for the game.

Christian Brooks, Running Back- 11 year old with height, built solid with options to explore other positions. Was a key option out the backfield especially settling over top of ball in short yardage. Football rarely moved once in his grasp on top of defenders hanging all over him.

TeamTakeOver

Dwayne Cutts III, Receiver- This young man always had my attention. Instant impact player who found himself wide open a lot by running crisp routes and not giving up on plays. Maximum effort and did it quietly by letting his actions speak louder than words. Mature with great potential.

Boston Latrobe, Receiver- Played mainly inside as a slot. A mismatch for linebackers and slower safeties. Read zone coverages well and has escapability in 1 on 1 situations.

Valencia Henley, Receiver/Defensive Back- One of the taller athletes in the tournament. Long gated ball when needed to elevate over defenders. Confident and played outside, driving off the line of scrimmage making DB's get out of back pedal early. Handful of interceptions as well.

Truly Cooper, Receiver/Safety- Played fast and even faster when saw daylight after a reception. Did not matter what side of ball he was playing once the pigskin was in flight, he found a way to come down with it, or no one caught it. Physical and competitive.
