DORCHESTER | While the headliners weren’t the only story line from Saturday’s Carolinas Coaches Combine at Woodland, those headliners were pretty darn good.
During the morning session, many of the top 2025s in South Carolina proved they weren’t simply going to show up. Instead, some used the event to dominate. While we’ll have plenty more coverage from Woodland, it’s fitting that we start with the award winners from the rising senior class.
MVP: Anthony Addison Anthony Addison 6'3" | 210 lbs | DL Sumter | 2025 State SC DL, Sumter
The discussion over the MVP was pretty short, all things considered. And the defensive end from Sumter was the name most of the committee said first. The 6-foot-2, 208-pound rising senior is a budding star who has crossed over into the threshold of major offers over the course of the last few months. At Woodland, he showed good speed (4.73 40), power (20 bench reps) and outright maneuverability by being unstoppable in the skills and competition phases.
Addison (pictured, right) said all of that was his goal coming into the combine, as he’s been doing extensive speed work in recent weeks.
What he’s also bettering himself at is the next step of his life.
“I’m starting to handle it better,” Addison said of his recruitment. “I didn’t really know how to talk to a college coach at first. I didn’t know what questions to ask. It was all excitement and not knowing what to ask. I know what to ask. I want to know how I fit into their school, how they take care of players after they leave college, what’s their plan for players during college. There’s two roles, the football side and the educational side. [Before] it was all about getting that first offer. Now, it’s easier to navigate.”
Leadership Award: Chanston Crosby Chanston Crosby 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC QB, Bamberg-Ehrhardt
Crosby is about to be entering his third year as the Raiders’ starting quarterback, and he’s very much the centerpiece of an offense that has a lot of weapons. Against some stiff competition Saturday, Crosby was routinely making some of those throws he’s made throughout his tenure while simultaneously getting the staff’s attention for working with some of the others at the position, as well as the receivers and tailbacks.
Fastest 40/Fastest Pro Shuttle: Jaquel Holman Jaquel Holman 6'2" | 195 lbs | RB Blackville-Hilda | 2025 State SC RB, Blackville-Hilda
We’ve known for a while now that Holman’s 2023 season was no fluke. He ran for 1,756 yards and 30 touchdowns while averaging 10 yards per carry after transferring from South Aiken (where he mostly played defensive back). Holman let everyone else at Woodland, know, too. The 6-foot-1, 193-pounder put up the event’s fasted Pro Shuttle (4.22) and then followed it up by running the session’s fastest 40 (4.45).
Best Broad Jump: Markese Stevens DB, McCormick
Stevens put up some decent marks in the 40 (4.58), vertical (25.6) and pro shuttle (4.37) and has a long reach for a 5-foot-11, 160-pound defensive back. His 123-inch broad jump, however, was a blowout. The next closest person among the 191 attendees was Dru Goldsmith from Hanahan (114), and a large number of the competition finished in the double digits.
Best Vertical: Dylan Polansky Dylan Polansky 5'10" | 195 lbs | LB Ashley Ridge | 2025 State SC LB, Ashley Ridge
Polansky, who also finished third in the broad jump with a jump of 113 inches, hit a 29.5-inch vertical leap to win that event. In fact, Polansky was pretty complete from start to finish. He ran a 4.58 50 at 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, added a 4.44 pro shuttle and hit 15 reps on the bench. Each of those figures placed him in the top 20.
Top Offensive Line: Jerius Williams Jerius Williams 6'0" | 275 lbs | OL Sumter | 2025 State SC G, Sumter
Williams chimed in a little shorter than we previously believed, when he measured 5-foot-10 and 292 pounds. It was of little consequence, as Williams went out and impressed, especially during the one-on-one competition phase of the combine. He used an impressive 78-inch wing span to carry leverage and prove why he’s been so good along the interior of the Gamecocks’ line.
Top Defensive Line/Most Bench Reps: Javaris Logan Javaris Logan 6'2" | 295 lbs | DL Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC DT, Bamberg-Ehrhardt
Logan might have drawn the biggest reaction of them all during the awards presentation when his 36 reps on the 185-pound bench was announced over the PA (the next highest total was 28). After that, Logan was voted the second-best producer among all the defensive linemen during the skills competition. Not bad for a guy who has 24 tackles for loss last year.
Top Defensive Combo: Malik Mozone Malik Mozone 5'10" | 180 lbs | DB Aiken | 2025 State SC DB, Aiken
Mozone was nominated for the Combines while he was still at Silver Bluff, and while he’s since transferred to Aiken and was donning his new team’s gear on Saturday, there was no mistaking that he felt at home at Woodland. Mozone was officially measured at 5-foot-9 and 193 pounds and proved he’s much quicker than his 4.89 40 during the event might suggest. Mozone broke up a bunch of passes in coverage during the competition and moved extremely well in space.
Top Offensive Combo: John Peeples John Peeples 5'11" | 190 lbs | RB Sumter | 2025 State SC RB, Sumter
Peeples has been a mainstay in the Gamecocks’ backfield for the last two seasons, yet he’s flown somewhat under the radar. His appearance at Woodland definitely helped his cause. At 5-foot-11 and 189 pounds, Peeples put up respectable numbers in the vertical, broad jump and pro shuttle and then made all those a side note by using his legs to show why he ran for 26 touchdowns and just shy of 1,100 yards last fall.
Top Offensive Skill: Kamari Curtis WR, Midland Valley
From a player who he team relies upon to someone who might just go from zero-to-60 in the blink of an eye, Curtis was arguably the most impressive receiver on the field Saturday. At just 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, Curtis flashed loads of explosiveness on sideline routes, slants and deep throws. The QB/WR portion was fast-paced, and Curtis never backed off when it was his turn for a rep. The Mustangs’ offense definitely as a weapon here.
Top Defensive Skill: JJ Fludd JJ Fludd 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Porter-Gaud | 2025 State SC RB/DB, Porter-Gaud
Fun fact: Fludd ran for more than 2,000 yards last season for Porter-Gaud and was nominated for the Combine as a tailback. Yet, during the skills and competition phases, he elected for a spot with the defensive backs. After a couple of not-so-great first couple reps, Fludd adjusted and started to us his excellent footwork to execute and then excel. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound rising senior definitely has the size for either position.
