Moving up the rankings in general is a tall task, especially as the talent pool that was added to our 2025 rankings is no slouch as we have had a lot of time to evaluate new prospects from before the fall season to now in mid February.
Izaak Spelhaug Izaak Spelhaug 6'3" | 180 lbs | DB Kindred | 2025 State ND , DB, Kindred Twitter
Up 22 spots from #66 to #44 overall in the class is Kindred defensive back Izaak Spelhaug Izaak Spelhaug 6'3" | 180 lbs | DB Kindred | 2025 State ND . 6’2 170 pound defensive backs are a dime in a dozen in the Dakotas, but find one that have the instinctive change of direction Izaak shows on tape are even harder to find as this kid uses the length in his long striding body to cling to the ball quickly. Have I mentioned the length on this young man yet? He also shows off long arms that although doesn’t have a ton of tape in pass coverage, he certainly shows off the looks of a strong safety that with his athleticism downhill is destined to play on Saturdays. He also shows off some position flexibility too.
Carter Flom Carter Flom 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH Grand Forks Red River | 2025 State ND , ATH, Grand Forks Red River Twitter
Up a handful of spots in our North Dakota 2025 rankings is Grand Forks Red River’s Carter Flom Carter Flom 5'11" | 180 lbs | ATH Grand Forks Red River | 2025 State ND , who sits as the #41 overall prospect in North Dakota. What has impressed me most since the 2023 season is the weight room growth, now playing at a more competitive 5’11 180 pounds. Carter is a athlete with excellent athleticism on both sides of the ball as college coaches will love the extension this young man has that should pop out on his first clip alone showing more length that the measurables will tell you. Love the physicality Carter plays with his on-ball skills as his physicality will make it really hard to for wide receivers in 11AA to make those high-traffic catches due to his versatile athletic movement. He looks like he is on a similar path to playing college football like his brother Hudson, who is a PWO at hometown UND.
Joshua Chavez Joshua Chavez 6'1" | 195 lbs | LB Watford City | 2025 State ND , LB, Watford City Twitter
One of the most under the radar prospects in my eyes in North Dakota hails from Watford City in Joshua Chavez Joshua Chavez 6'1" | 195 lbs | LB Watford City | 2025 State ND , who moved up a handful of spots (3) despite a position change on our end to linebacker. Joshua is a middle linebacker that understands the proper pursuit angle pre-snap to land right on target with his instinctive striding ability right in the wheelhouse of the ball carrier within the A-gap. He shows off wrestler physicality too when he makes his contact on the ball. He shows off development with his tape with his range, as you don’t see him travel much outside the inside box for tackles, so that would be something of note for college coaches to see at camps to see how much range he can cover. Regardless, he looks like a next-level target out of Watford City.
Nate Walz Nate Walz 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Jamestown | 2025 State ND , WR, Jamestown Twitter
Another prospect up a few spots (4) hails from Jamestown in 2025 wide receiver Nate Walz Nate Walz 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Jamestown | 2025 State ND who is one that I thought took a step forward in the 2023 season. Nate is a route-runner that clearly understands how to take his burst up several notches when getting to the top of his route as you persistently see his accelerator reach its peak mid-way into the second level of the field. He is one you can trust to go get the football if it is slightly off line because this young man has so much athleticism and glued hands to make the high-traffic catch. I also love the level of fluidity Nate shows on his routes as a 2025 prospect I expect to raise his stock this summer.
Tee Sylling Tee Sylling 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Maple Valley | 2025 State ND , QB, Maple Valley Twitter
The biggest mover into the top 20 prospects in North Dakota was Maple Valley quarterback Tee Sylling Tee Sylling 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Maple Valley | 2025 State ND who jumped nearly 30 spots to the #20 overall in our rankings. Getting the nod as our quarterback MVP at the Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase certainly helped Tee’s case to climb up our rankings, however, this young man had a heck of a 2023 season as well as his overall arm talent has really developed nicely in the last 9 months. The precision Tee shows off over the top of the secondary shields very well for a wide receiver to take it the distance of the field. Tee also has some of the best evasion ability outside of the pocket amongst the quarterbacks in this 2025 class which also comes with the instincts he has brings to the table with his elite vision. He also has improved with the balance of his footwork, which was seen highly at our Dakotas Showcase. Tee is certainly one I will be tracking with my travels to camps around the Dakotas this summer.
