Just north of Houston, in The Woodlands, we’ll have the Lone Star Showdown and it features some of the best prospects in Louisiana and Texas. The event begins on Saturday and champions will be crowned on Sunday in the 12U, 14U, 15U and 18U divisions. The Prep Redzone 7v7 Circuit is America’s Most Covered 7v7 Circuit and we’ll have coverage before, during and after the tournament of all the action.
In this post, we continue our preview series of this weekend’s tournament. We’re putting the spotlight on the top quarterbacks attending this weekend’s event. We have some of the best signal callers in this part of the country participating in the Lone Star Showdown. Check back each day for more preview articles! We’ll also be putting the spotlight on some of the best wide receivers, defensive backs and overall athletes. And in case you missed it, earlier this week, we previewed the Top Prospects for this weekend. Stay tuned for more preview content!
Our first quarterback on the breakdown is Tomball Memorial 2025 quarterback Aiden Martin Aiden Martin 6’0″ | QB Tomball Memorial | 2025 TX as he will suit up for Cypress Elite this weekend. Martin put up monster numbers last fall for Tomball Memorial. He accounted for over 3,000 yards of total offense and 38 touchdown. Cypress Elite is going to have some playmakers as well so watching Martin in action should see some fireworks. Martin is looking to build off the momentum from his junior season this spring. And it seems like the junior quarterback’s recruitment should take off at any moment.
Aubrey 2025 quarterback Brock Temple Brock Temple 6’5″ | QB Aubrey | 2025 TX is going to be taking the lead for a talented DFW Pride squad. Temple earned honors last fall after a stellar junior season and he’s starting to see his recruitment take off. Temple has earned a few offers, including Stephen F Austin. He’s also received interest from Houston, SMU and Texas Tech. Temple is going to be one of the more impressive looking quarterbacks that we see this weekend. He stands at 6’5 and is also a standout on the track. Watching Temple slinging the rock should be fun to watch.
Warren Easton 2026 quarterback Carl Reed Jr. Carl Reed Jr. 5’8″ | 135 lbs | QB Warren Easton | 2026 State LA will be leading a very talented N.O. Dolphins squad into the Lone Star Showdown this weekend. Reed is a dynamic quarterback that can do a lot on the football field. It will be fun to watch him in a setting where he’s strictly throwing the football. But before you think that a dual-threat quarterback can’t tear it up in a 7v7 setting, Reed has had plenty of success in these tournaments. He tore it up last spring at several different tournaments. And when you consider the talent he has around him, he should be one of the top guys this week.
Tidehaven 2026 quarterback Kale Russell Kale Russell 5’11” | QB Tidehaven | 2026 TX will be playing for Marathoners Elite and we’re looking forward to seeing him and this squad in action. They have quite a few players that are flying under the radar but they shouldn’t be after this weekend in The Woodlands. As a sophomore, Russell accounted for over 2,200 yards and completed 70 percent of his passes. He helped lead his team to the state championship game and put up big numbers in the process. Russell should have a big weekend and we’re looking forward to seeing that accuracy on display.
Coming over Louisiana, Benton 2027 quarterback Malachi Zeigler Malachi Zeigler 6’3″ | 190 lbs | QB Benton | 2027 State LA will play for the Bootleggers North squad. Zeigler is also a standout baseball player and he already looks like he’s going to be one of the better two-sport prospects in Louisiana’s 2027 class. Zeigler stood out last year at our PRZ-Next camp and then impressed our PRZ-Louisiana staff earlier this year. Zeigler is going to be a name to watch not only this weekend but throughout the rest of the 7v7 tourney season as he balances football and baseball. Look for Zeigler to showcase an impressive arm.
Highlights
Lumberton 2027 quarterback Nolan Mitchell Nolan Mitchell 6’0″ | 165 lbs | QB Lumberton | 2027 TX is going to be the quarterback to watch for KC Elite this weekend. Mitchell appears to be ready for a big weekend and he’s a freshman signal caller that we already have our eyes on. Mitchell has been putting in work over the last month to get ready for the 7v7 circuit this offseason. The scouting report on Mitchell right now is that he has a big arm and a very high ceiling considering he’s just a freshman. KC Elite is going to have a young team this weekend but they have some high ceiling prospects and Mitchell is one of them.
Highlights
2026 quarterback Rodrigo Bravo Jr. Rodrigo Bravo Jr. 6’1″ | QB The Woodlands College Park | 2026 TX will have the home field advantage this weekend as he’s QB1 for The Woodlands College Park. Bravo will be playing for Texas Tap and this is a very talented team that could be one of the favorites to win it all in the 18U division. Bravo has some absolute playmakers around him so we expect him to lead an offense that will be one of the higher scoring units in the tournament. Bravo has been on the Prep Redzone radar for a while now and it will be good to see him in action once again this weekend.
Concordia Lutheran 2025 quarterback Tanner Huckfelt Tanner Huckfelt 6’0″ | 180 lbs | QB Concordia Lutheran | 2025 State TX will be playing for H-Town’s Sho Time and he’s coming off a fantastic junior season. Huckfelt is another example of a quarterback that has been on the Prep Redzone Texas radar for a while now. Huckfelt was covered last summer as a name to watch last fall. He responded by accounting for nearly 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was also recently voted as the offensive player of the year for the Houston-area private schools. Huckfelt is looking to have a monster weekend in The Woodlands.
