Following my breakdown of some of the most explosive rising sophomore playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, here’s my list of the most intriguing 2027s in Kentucky on the defensive end.
In the first place spot on my list is Jeremiah Anderson Jeremiah Anderson 5’10” | 205 lbs | LB Pikeville | 2027 State KY , a linebacker at Pikeville High School. What I like about Anderson is his ability to read the offense, quickly breach the pocket and make crucial stops. Anderson also stands out with his ability to catch the rush and protect the backfield. Another aspect of Anderson’s playstyle that impresses is his ability to use his arms to shove the offense to the ground.
Highlights
I am additionally impressed with Jordan Haskins Jordan Haskins 5’11” | 170 lbs | DB Bryan Station | 2027 State KY , a defensive back at Bryan Station High School. In addition to excellent awareness and the ability to quickly jump on the loose ball, Haskins impresses with his ability to pick up speed in the backfield to catch the rush from along the edge. I also like how Haskins utilizes his wingspan to disrupt the passing game, causing incompletions by knocking the ball out of the air.
Claiming the number three spot on my list is LaMonte Brown Jr. LaMonte Brown Jr. 6’1″ | 240 lbs | DL Frederick Douglass | 2027 State KY , a defensive lineman at Bryan Station High School. Brown’s execution off the snap and ability to read the offense like a book made a big difference last season, using his physical edge and outstanding strength to shut down the running game in the pocket. I also like how Brown can remain durable and muscle his way to the quarterback for the sack.
Another skilled prospect to keep an eye on is Jayden Justice Jayden Justice 5’8″ | 165 lbs | LB Pikeville | 2027 State KY , a linebacker at Pikeville High School. Justice impresses me with his defensive explosiveness, proving he can make commanding stops and force the occasional fumble. I also like how Justice can read the pass and quickly shut down receivers off the short pass. Justice also showcased his ability to maneuver the pocket with ease and catch the rush.
Coming in at number five on my list is Austyn Lawless Austyn Lawless 6’0″ | 200 lbs | LB Somerset | 2027 State KY , a defensive lineman at Somerset High School. Lawless stands out with his size and stopping power, utilizing his physical edge to make quick stops and force turnovers. Lawless also proved he can read the pass and pick up speed to quickly drop receivers after the catch. I also like how Lawless can read the handoff and make important stops in the pocket.
