One of our most popular features from last year is BACK! We are returning the “Freshman Friday” series to help jumpstart your 2027 recruiting boards.
Here are my four featured players for this week’s Freshman Friday! Check them out ASAP!!
Cale Sheets Cale Sheets 6'0" | 150 lbs | DB Archbishop Bergan | 2027 NE | 2027 | DB/WR | Archbishop Bergan | 6’0″ 160 lbs
Talk about making a debut! Cale Sheets Cale Sheets 6'0" | 150 lbs | DB Archbishop Bergan | 2027 NE showed that he has the potential to be a two-way star for the Knights in the next few seasons. In his freshman season, Cale hauled in 26 catches for 381 yards and three touchdowns while recording 40 tackles, two TFLs, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, and four interceptions on defense. From watching Cale at the PRZ Stock Up showcase, it’s clear he’s an exceptional athlete with next-level talent. He’s a very instinctive player who is smart in coverage and can change direction fluidly to stick right on his receiver’s hip pocket. Very willing to step up and defend against the run— solid technique when tackling. As a receiver, Cale is a great route-runner who shows the ability to get open and provide a safety blanket target for his QB. He attacks the ball very well both when working his way back to it and when having to make tough, contested catches. Look for Cale and the Bergan Knights to take another big step in 2024!
Kadin Logan Kadin Logan 5'7" | 170 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2027 NE | 2027 | RB/DB | Lincoln Southeast | 5’7″ 170 lbs
Lincoln Southeast RB Kadin Logan Kadin Logan 5'7" | 170 lbs | ATH Lincoln Southeast | 2027 NE came into the year with big expectations, and he more than delivered! Kadin ended the year as the freshman state rushing leader with 615 yards on 83 carries (7.4 yards per carry) and three touchdowns. Although he’s only a freshman, he already looks like a complete back with a great mix of power, vision, explosiveness, and speed. Kadin has a nice level of patience, taking time to scan the field and allowing his block to set up, before finding his lane and exploding through it. Even though Kadin isn’t a “big” back, he sure runs as angry as I’ve seen, showing that he can pick up tough yards between the tackles. You also can’t let him gain the edge or bounce a run to the outside because he has the jets to take one home (11.01-100m as an eighth grader). Should be an even bigger factor next season on both sides of the field and in the return game!
Jasiah Summerfield Jasiah Summerfield 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Omaha Bryan | 2027 NE | 2027 | QB | Omaha Bryan | 5’10” 170 lbs
Freshman Jasiah Summerfield Jasiah Summerfield 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Omaha Bryan | 2027 NE looks to be the next man up at QB1 for the Bears in 2024. Although we only saw Jasiah sparingly throughout the season, he flashed a pretty unique skill set. One thing that stood out to me about Jasiah is that he is pretty elusive and can create/extend plays with his legs. We got to see more of Jasiah’s arm at the PRZ Stock Up Showcase, where he showed he could deliver the ball with solid zip on it, especially in short/intermediate passes over the middle of the field. Even as a good runner, it seems like Jasiah still prefers to sit in the pocket and go through his reads before deciding to take off. There is lots of room for growth for Jasiah at this stage, but definitely a high-ceiling player!
Caleb Schwenka Caleb Schwenka 5'10" | 165 lbs | LB Minden | 2027 NE | 2027 | LB/RB | Minden | 5’11” 165 lbs
The younger Schwenka quickly earned a varsity spot for the Whippets and never looked back. The freshman linebacker was highly productive, ending fourth on the team in tackles with 39 tackles, six TFLs, and three sacks. Caleb already flashes a good football IQ with how smart he is about gap play and how quickly he can read/diagnose plays. Caleb excelled as a run defender, showing a quick trigger when the keys run and his ability to plug up lanes. Caleb also impressed with his tackling ability, displaying solid technique and power behind his tackles. Schwenka could be in line for a bigger role on offense after finishing with 91 rushing yards as a freshman. Lots of potential with Caleb, especially as he keeps getting stronger, faster, and gains more experience!
