I chose five newcomers to highlight and challenge to help chase the top dawgs in their class and how important it is to never stop developing your craft. Cream rises to the top!
Kennedy Johnson Kennedy Johnson RB TX is a compact and shifty running back with a 5’7, 147 pound frame. Film shows quick reads with a burst to reach next level and make secondary positions miss in space. Looks comfortable in zone schemes, and getting the ball outside the tackle box. Weight room will be his best friend this off-season and hopes to not loose a step, but only gain speed with muscle.
Challenge- keep pads down. especially on contact.
Anthony Rodriguez Anthony Rodriguez RB TX is a well built ball carrier with experience at multiple positions. Shows off his competitive nature every time he touches the ball. Runs hard and keeps nose down. Also finds a way to keep balance when tripped up or fighting for extra yards. At the end of the day makes plays to help team finish in the win column.
Challenge- don’t expose football when in traffic. chin ball and stay north/south.
Robert Taylor Robert Taylor RB TX is a bigger back coming off a 1200 yard season and 15 touchdowns. Has good agility and uses stiff arm and rip moves to fight off defenders for more yards. Can pick speed back up pretty quickly and becomes more of a handful when gets through the line of scrimmage untouched.
Challenge- run through the smoke. don’t stop feet on contact or when hole closes.
Jonathan Thomas Jonathan Thomas RB TX is on the smaller side as a three sport athlete who plays big. Can return kicks and fits the utility role more to keep defenses honest. Smart and hard working. The next four years will be a progression to develop into a well rounded ball carrier. Definitely has tools to work with.
Challenge- WEIGHT ROOM. WEIGHT ROOM. WEIGHT ROOM.
Juan Zuniga Juan Zuniga RB TX falls on the smaller side in the backfield, however, has what you need to carry the football in toughness. Don’t judge a book by its cover when trying to tackle #34 this past season. Lighting quick reaction and trusting what you see is how Juan keeps stacking yards.
Challenge- Understand blocking schemes on the front side and backside
