The freshman and sophomores who were nominated had impressive 2023 seasons, either in limited action or working their way into a starting position. And when the roster was released we identified 12 guys who we’re looking forward to seeing:
Tayshon Freeman | QB | York – Freeman played well in situations where the Cougars needed him to pass the ball in 2023. He has the athleticism and ability to make plays with his feet and on rollouts. We’ll be interested to watch him in the 40-yard dash.
Nigel Lightner Nigel Lightner 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Rock Hill | 2027 SC | DB | Rock Hill – Lightner (pictured above) started for the Bearcats as a freshman in 2023 and made his presence felt. He tied for the team lead in interceptions while also nabbing a pick six. His reaction time to when the ball is in the air will be something to watch, especially when it comes time for the one-on-one drills.
Zymier Gordon-Miles | DB | Northwestern – While spending most of the 2023 season injured, Gordon-Miles was able to make the most of the time he was in. He finished with 11 total tackles and 2 interceptions. He showed some agility and instinctiveness being able to move around in the defensive backfield.
Carson Pinti | TE | Clover – While the Blue Eagles weren’t pass exclusive in 2023, Pinti was a guy you could count on when you needed a catch, registering four catches for 100 yards. But the bigger impact was felt on the other side of the ball, where he had 16 solo tackles.
RJ Brown RJ Brown 5'10" | 165 lbs | QB Lancaster | 2026 State SC | QB | Lancaster – While he may be listed at quarterback, the talent for Brown extends in multiple positions, which is why we’ll be excited to watch him go through the different drills like one-on-ones and the 40 yard dash. He can make a difference on special teams as well.
Camdin Portis | DB | Indian Land – Portis had an outstanding sophomore season, nabbing 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumbles with 18 solo tackles. He even clocked a speed of 20.3 MPH in the Catapult vests. Colleges are starting to take note as he already has offers from Penn State and Colorado.
Cameron McMillon Cameron McMillon 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Fairfield Central | 2026 State SC | QB | South Pointe – The former Fairfield Central quarterback will now be suiting up for the Stallions in 2024. He already has an offer from Marshall University, and with good reason. McMillon is accurate and can make things happen in the short to intermediate passing game – he also has the size and the arm strength you want at the position.
Hayden Morris Hayden Morris 6'2" | 160 lbs | WR Indian Land | 2026 SC | WR | Indian Land – Morris’s numbers in 2023 as a sophomore were impressive, catching 10 touchdowns on 61 receptions for 850 yards. He already has an offer from Eastern Kentucky.
Kaiden Watkins Kaiden Watkins 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Rock Hill | 2027 State SC | DB | Rock Hill – Watkins is another defensive back in the Catawba River Region who had an outstanding freshman campaign, and one who we expect his offer list to grow in 2024. He had 92 tackles and 4 interceptions in 2023.
Quinn Kelly Quinn Kelly 5'10" | 175 lbs | QB Fort Mill | 2026 SC | QB | Fort Mill – Kelly makes the short and intermediate throws well in the Yellow Jackets’ spread option offense. He can also make plays on the run. We’ll be interested to watch him connect with other star wide receivers from the area.
Tamarion Watkins | DB | Northwestern – Watkins was a tackling machine for the Trojans in 2023, registering 50 total tackles with two blocked kicks on special teams. He’ll definitely be tough for guys to block during the one-on-one period.
Raleigh Salters Raleigh Salters 5'10" | 190 lbs | LB Dutch Fork | 2026 State SC | LB | Dutch Fork – Salters can move from sideline to sideline for his linebacker spot. He can read plays well and reacts very quickly. We’ll be interested to watch him when it comes time for the one-on-one drills.
