Alabama has several underrated and sometimes unheard of prospects that can make an impact across all collegiate levels. Here are 5 names i’d like to bring some attention to.
Brogan Gross
Brogan Gross
Gross is an athletic, active footed QB prospect who flashes good creativity and ball placement. He is a smaller prospect at 5’11 170 and doesn’t flash off the tape when it comes to arm strength. However, he can get the ball up and down all over the field and throws a tight spiral, allowing him to make bucket throws and layer catchable passes into tight spots on the field. He shows good mechanics in the pocket and always keeps his feet moving, allowing him to transition his weight easier and quickly run when protection breaks down. When creating, he keeps his eyes ahead of the sticks and pinpoints crossing receivers nicely during the scramble drill. All in all, Gross has a decent athletic profile and is a multi-sport athlete.
Dawson Cambron
Dawson Cambron
Cambron is a multi-sport athlete with solid measurables at 6’1 180. He is a YAC weapon, which also gives him upside as a return man. Might not possess elite speed, but is twitchy and can stop on a dime. He flashes the plant strength on cuts to toss up turf , allowing him to jump across the face of defenders and reposition himself into new running lanes. He has active vision in the open field and knows when to slow up to get his blockers out in front. He also pinpoints cut-back lanes well. Cambron would play well at a smaller school level in an offense that gives him opportunity to create yards after the catch.
Terence Tubbs
Terence Tubbs
Tubbs is an athletic prospect who could project at several positions. He splits time playing both ways as a TE and as an EDGE, but could also drop back and play as a traditional LB, or at least has the skillset to. Tubbs has a long, athletic frame at 6’2 and just under 200. At this point in his development, he flashes good play strength against blockers. He has a vice grip when he punches and can rip across heavier blockers to force them off-platform. From there, he has the bend to catch the edge and begin his pursuit. On offense, he is a violent blocker who frequently launches himself into defenders to knock them off their feet. Simply put, on both sides of the ball, the energy and violence pops off the tape. There is plenty of future physical development left in the tank here, which makes him an underrated prospect who could offer some high upside at the FCS level.
Barginere is a stout, scrappy DL prospect. He doesn’t check a whole lot of length boxes at 6’0 230 and might be towards the peak of his weight, but he compensates for such with his hot motor and outstanding lateral quickness. Off the snap, he can quickly step into different rush lanes and threaten the line of scrimmage from different depth and angles. As a pass rusher, he can set up blockers and get them leaning either way. Once clear of blockers, he flashes good closing speed for his size. Barginere might slide down a few levels, but he should be able to iron out a role thanks to his unique pass rushing upside and pursuit skills. Consider me a fan of his tape.
Highlights
Jaquan Jones Jaquan Jones 6’2″ | 285 lbs | DL Central | 2027 State AL is not built like your typical freshman DL prospect. He checks in at a brute 6’2 295 and sets the tone in the middle of the defense. His future physical development will come from refining his already large stature, which should add more athleticism to his game. He is still a little raw and clunky, but that is to be expected with young big guys. For such a large prospect, he does a good job of getting sideways and running with blockers on stretch and outside run plays. He keeps his feet anchored to the turf, which prevent him from getting washed and allows him to toy around with blockers once he has a hold on them. He is also just nearly impossible to move, which makes an impact on every snap. Jones has P4 upside, especially as he continues to grow as an athlete.
