There is a strong stable of DL coming through Illinois high schools that possess rare size that allow them to control the trenches, wreck havoc in the backfield, eat up space, and keep LBs clean behind them. To highlight those massive athletes, we are going to go through the Classes and breakdown the tape of a handful of uncommitted prospects. We start with a senior DL to get your eyes on.
Landon checks the box when it comes to size and length. The 6’5″ 255 lbs athlete has a 6’9″ wingspan. The two way lineman lines up all over the DL for Glenbrook North. He shows quick hands and an effective swim move to quickly get to the heels of the OL. Landon has effective burst to close on the ball in the backfield. Landon’s strength and stout anchor allows him to dig in, force OL blocks to slip off him, and then make the tackle when lined up inside. Landon also has solid get off at that size that allows him to be an impact at the HS at DE. The versatile senior is still available, so check him out.
Highlights
Nate is a dominant DL prospect. A special prospect with size, speed, quickness, power, and the ability to transition speed into power. Marshall’s recruitment shows how dominant his talent is with offers from the likes of USC, Michigan State, Texas A&M, and multiple others. The get off at the snap paired with the hand use and strength make Nate borderline unblock able at the HS level. He has the motor and range to chase down plays way outside the tackle box or downfield. The overall body control that allows his movements to be as efficient and powerful as possible is special. Nathaniel is a special prospect in the Class of 2025. Click on his tape below and enjoy.
The 6’3″ 280 lbs DL is fresh off an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers, and it is quickly apparent to see what they like in him. Brad has a massive frame that is able to eat up space, and has the anchor strength to hold the line when needed. However, what is very impressive by the massive athlete is how explosive he is at his size. Brad is lightning quick out of his stance. That quickly turns to power as he lands his initial strikes to create separation from the OL. Brad is able to destroy the pocket with his bull rush and has an effective push pull. Fitzgibbon has a special blend of size, power, and explosive play that many other schools are soon to see and start pursuing heavily.
This is not something you see often. Gavin is now listed at 6’4″ 310 lbs, yet the big man lines up at DE for Prairie Ridge. The big man wins with a powerful bull rush off the edge. That power and size will most likely fit best inside at the next level. Inside is where his level of burst and athleticism will also shine. Gavin will need to continue to work on his pad level to maximize his power by playing with more leverage. When he does line up inside you see the exciting potential as he quickly gets penetration. Gavin is a raw prospect with plenty of tools to develop.
