To continue the series, here’s my list of some under the radar #TN2024 standouts in Davidson County.
rnAt the top of my list of notable performers is Knox Roberts Knox Roberts 6’2″ | 200 lbs | QB Davidson Acad. | 2024 State TN , a quarterback at Davidson Academy. In addition to outstanding composure and footwork, what impresses me about Roberts is his ability to adapt to pressure and hit his receivers in stride anywhere on the field. I also like Roberts due to his arm strength and ability to target his receivers in the backfield for deep passes. Another facet of Roberts that stands out is his ability to shake tackles and escape the defense on the ground, showcasing his electric speed and durability in the pocket.

rnI am additionally impressed with Tion Curry Tion Curry 6’4″ | 220 lbs | DL East Nashville | 2024 State TN , a defensive lineman at East Nashville Magnet High School. What I like about Curry is his quick execution off the snap, his ability to consistently blast past the offensive line and his ability to apply heavy pressure on the quarterback. Curry also makes a difference due to his ability to read the offense and pick up speed in the pocket, proving he can suffocate the rush. Another aspect of Curry’s playstyle that impresses is his ability to close down running room and decrease space, showing off his efficiency in shutting down ground production.

rnClaiming the number three spot on my list is Luke Beemer Luke Beemer 6’4″ | 305 lbs | OL MBA | 2024 State TN , an offensive lineman at Montgomery Bell Academy. What impresses me the most about Beemer is his size, speed and ability to overwhelm the defense with his strength. In addition to constantly blasting the defense to the ground, Beemer has showcased his ability to push back against physicality as well as absorb pressure. I also like how Beemer can contest the blitz and maneuver the pocket to catch linebackers off guard. Also making a considerable impact is Beemer’s ability to prolong the snap with his ability to combat the defense, buying his quarterback more time to make plays.

rnAnother skilled prospect that made his presence known is Walker Denning Walker Denning 6’3″ | 250 lbs | OL Goodpasture | 2024 State TN , an offensive lineman at Goodpasture Christian High School. What makes Denning so impactful at the line of scrimmage is his ability to stun the defense with his electric speed and strength, proving he can absorb pressure, disrupt the blitz and keep the play alive. I also like how Denning utilizes his toughness to create disorganization when he attacks the defensive line, showcasing his ability to collapse the pocket and create space for his running back to break free into the backfield.

rnComing in at number five on my list is Max Kidd Max Kidd 6’3″ | 275 lbs | OL Father Ryan | 2024 State TN , an offensive lineman at Father Ryan High School. Kidd has been explosive at the line this past year, utilizing his size and strength to consistently win one-on-ones against the defensive line. Another aspect of Kidd’s playstyle that has made a considerable difference is his ability to read the defense, contest the blitz and protect his quarterback from pressure. Also impressing me is Kidd’s ability to block out defensive playmakers in the pocket, proving he can consistently stop the defense with his physical edge and versatility.

rnAlso making a difference was Malik Bolling Malik Bolling 6’2″ | 255 lbs | DL East Nashville | 2024 State TN , a defensive lineman at East Nashville Magnet High School. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Bolling’s playstyle is his ability to read the offense and find solid space in the pocket to apply pressure on and sack the quarterback. Bolling also stands out with his ability to lock in at the goal line, proving his awareness, positioning and his ability to stop the running back. Bolling also showcased his ability to adapt from along the edge, using his electric quickness to stop the opposition from escaping into the backfield.

rnAnother impactful senior was Brooks Jones Brooks Jones 6’1″ | 210 lbs | LB MTCS | 2024 TN , a linebacker at Middle Tennessee Christian High School. In addition to outstanding awareness, what impresses me the most about Jones is his ability to use bursts of speed to catch the offense off guard, proving he can catch the opposition along the edge and protect the backfield from the rush. I also like how Jones can absorb contact and overpower the offensive line at the last minute to stop the running back. Another facet of Jones that stood out last year was his commanding physicality and stopping power, proving he can blast the opposition to the ground by getting airborne.

rnAlso establishing himself this past year was Melvin Cousin, an athlete at Ezell-Harding Christian High School. I like Cousins due to his disruptiveness down the stretch and ability to be physical in coverage. Cousin also poses a threat in the air, showcasing his ability to elevate off the ground, haul in interceptions and punch past the defense into the redzone. Cousin also makes a difference in the pocket, proving he can find openings in the offensive line to sack the gunslinger. I also like Cousin’s ability to stop the offense on the ground, showing off his ability to pick up speed and catch the rush from along the edge.
