MYRTLE BEACH – “I just felt like we were a better team.”

For most of the 48 minutes Saturday at Doug Shaw Stadium, the South team looked to prove head coach Walt Wilson's analysis correct. The 28-8 win over the North in the 76th edition of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl could be credited to a host of players on both sides of the football.

Let's start with the Most Valuable Players on Offense and Defense (pictured right to left):

[player_tooltip player_id='208339' first='Carmello' last='McDaniel'], RB, Hartsville – The shortest player on the roster had the longest play from scrimmage. His 64-yard touchdown run in which he turned inside, then burst upfield down the South sidelines provided a quick response to the North's opening drive score. His game-high 82 yards almost doubled the North's total on the ground.

[player_tooltip player_id='1142508' first='Isaiah' last='McClary'], DB, Irmo – The soon-to-be University of South Carolina preferred walk-on (he will enroll after graduating next week) closed out his high school career on a high note. He helped turn the game in the South's favor with two first-half interceptions. He and Richland Northeast's [player_tooltip player_id='208886' first='Myles' last='Pratt'], who also had an interception, helped limit the North to 96 passing yards.

Now comes the list of contributors:

[player_tooltip player_id='208342' first='McKendrie' last='Douglas'], QB, Hartsville – The Red Foxes' senior threw for only 36 yards, but completed two scoring drives for the South with touchdowns. He threw a six-yard touchdown pass to end the first half and had a seven-yard touchdown to open the second half.

[player_tooltip player_id='267430' first='Jaden' last='Allen-Hendrix'], RB, Irmo – The senior showed his punishing running style on a few runs in which he literally brought North tacklers down the field with him. His 24-yard run in the third quarter set up McKendrie's second touchdown.

[player_tooltip player_id='771089' first='Kamden' last='Sox'], Brookland-Cayce; [player_tooltip player_id='589058' first='Justin' last='Joe'], South Florence; [player_tooltip player_id='997162' first='Carter' last='Rimpf'], Camden; Dakari Sumter, Lower Richland; [player_tooltip player_id='771236' first='Mark'Quelle' last='Moser'], Richland Northeast; [player_tooltip player_id='448985' first='Andrew' last='Tumbleston'], Cane Bay; Phil McLean, Carolina Forest; and [player_tooltip player_id='1142578' first='Jayden' last='Benjamin'], Dillon (all OL) – The eight offensive linemen representing the South played, in head coach Walt Wilson's words, “SEC football” in that they “pounded” away upfront to protect the quarterbacks and open running lanes.

[player_tooltip player_id='448988' first='Christian' last='Sexton'], LB, Lexington – The Wildcat senior had a team-high seven tackles and was making tackles all over the field. Whether at the line of scrimmage or even in the secondary, Sexton left his mark on the defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='1142585' first='Charles' last='Jeffcoat'], DL, Dreher – The boxscore does not currently show him with the forced fumble on the North's [player_tooltip player_id='998700' first='Coleman' last='Gray'] which resulted in Dutch Fork lineman's [player_tooltip player_id='1142746' first='Dakota' last='Jordan']'s 26-yard touchdown. The statistics also do not show the number of plays upfront Jeffcoat impacted for the defense.

Ka'Von Chisolm, Hampton County and [player_tooltip player_id='771217' first='Terrance' last='Wells'], Dutch Fork (both DL) – The duo's play upfront played a major role in limiting the North to just 42 rushing yards They also combined for 1.5 seconds and eight tackles.

Here's a look at the North's Most Valuable Players on Offense and Defense:

Jacari Bennett, DL, JL Mann – The 6-foot-3, 223-pound senior had seven tackles to co-lead the North and helped keep the South from pulling away in the first half.

Mikell McClellan, WR, JL Mann – It was an All-MVP sweep for the Patriots. McClellen had the North's lone score on a 26-yard touchdown catch from [player_tooltip player_id='771038' first='Malachi' last='Marshall'] in the first quarter. He also led the team with 69 all-purpose yards.
