A week after a rough outing in the Class 5A championship game loss to Dutch Fork, the White Knoll quarterback was back on the gridiron throwing touchdowns and confidently throwing the football.
Sharpe, along with teammates Devin Geronomi and Caleb Geronomi Caleb Geronomi 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB White Knoll | 2026 State SC , were among the 40-plus Midlands underclassmen invited to the third annual Joanne Langfitt Underclassmen Challenge.
Held at Doug Shaw Stadium the night before the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl, the one-day event serves to evaluate the Palmetto State’s top rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors.
This year’s challenge was more of a team aspect. The players were grouped into six teams – Blue, Gold, Red, White, Gray and Orange – competing in various competitions ranging from 7-on-7 to a Tug of War and Dodgeball.
There was even an eating contest where the winner was determined based on the team which finished the most Chick-Fil-A nuggets.
The event was won by the Gray team led by Dutch Fork offensive lineman Josh Benson Josh Benson 6'7" | 300 lbs | OL Dutch Fork | 2025 State SC (pictured on left with Dutch Fork teammates). The junior also performed well in the team sled races and one-on-one drills.
Other Gray players who stood out on the Gray team:
– Noah Lucas Noah Lucas 6'4" | 235 lbs | TE Lower Richland | 2025 State SC , DL/TE, Lower Richland – The 6-foot-5, 225-pound senior demonstrated his strong pass-catching skills and route running during 7-on-7 and passing drills. He’s quick off the line of scrimmage and provided a tall target for bother Sharpe and Chanston Crosby Chanston Crosby 6'1" | 175 lbs | QB Bamberg-Ehrhardt | 2025 State SC of Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
– Krew Morris Krew Morris 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Gilbert | 2025 State SC , RB, Gilbert – The 5-foot-11, 185-pound junior was an important dual threat for the Indians. He showed his receiving skills both on short and long passes and paired with freshman Trevon Williamson Trevon Williamson 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Gilbert | 2027 State SC to provide a potent running game.
– Jevon Edwards Jevon Edwards 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB South Aiken | 2025 State SC , RB, South Aiken – The junior had the Palmetto State football scene buzzing after rushing for a program-record 442 yards and six touchdowns against Aiken to end the season. He showed his blazing speed during the 40-yard dash.
– KJ Smith KJ Smith 5'7" | 170 lbs | ATH Dutch Fork | 2025 State SC , WR, Dutch Fork – The 5-foot-9, 165-pound junior accounted for a rushing touchdown in the Class 5A tittle game. His speed was on display during the 40-yard dash as well as during 7-on-7 drills.
– Nathan Gilley Nathan Gilley 6'1" | 250 lbs | OL Chapin | 2025 State SC , OL, Chapin – When the Eagle junior was not contributing to the victory in the nugget-eating contest, he more than held his own against other larger linemen.
