Continue ReadingWith the 2023 high school football season behind us, another senior class will be moving on to the next level. As we move into a new season, I wanted to take a look back at the class of 2024 by releasing the final 2024 rankings for the state of Kentucky. With these rankings being officially published, I will be taking the next week to break down each position. After already covering the quarterbacks and running backs, I will now turn my attention to our top wide receivers in the class of 2024 in the state of Kentucky.
Shaun Boykins Shaun Boykins 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR North Hardin | 2024 State KY continued to cement himself as the top receiver in his class in the state of Kentucky. He had a strong senior year, catching 84 passes for 1,291 yards and 16 touchdowns in nine games. Boykins is a very dangerous deep threat, showing the ability to use his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs to create separation. He is also electric after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big gains. Shaun also scored three rushing touchdowns this season. Boykins signed with Louisville where I can see him becoming a key piece of their offense once he gets there.
Max Gainey Max Gainey 5’9″ | 155 lbs | WR Louisville Male | 2024 State KY is a wide receiver that has been high on my radar for a while now and continued to impress this season. Gainey had an outstanding senior year, finishing with 57 receptions for 1,019 yards and 20 touchdowns in 13 games. He is a skilled route runner, showing the ability to use smooth breaks in his routes to create separation from opposing defensive backs. Gainey has also shown the speed to pose as a threat in the deep passing game. He also scored two rushing touchdowns and proved to be very dangerous on special teams, returning two punts and one kickoff for touchdowns. Max currently holds an offer from Purdue but appears to remain undecided on his plans at the next level. I fully expect him to be a true impact player wherever he ends up playing.
Jhaden Vaughn Jhaden Vaughn 6’5″ | 180 lbs | WR Trigg County | 2024 State KY is another receiver that has been high on my radar for a while now and continued to stand out this season. Vaughn finished his senior year with 37 receptions for 388 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games. Jhaden lined up on the outside where he was able to use his speed to pose as a dangerous threat in the deep passing game. He also showed the ability to use his athleticism to go up and catch the ball at its highest point in contested catch situations. Vaughn also finished the season with one interception on defense. Jhaden currently holds multiple offers and I expect him to make an impact wherever he decides to play at the next level.
Although he missed this past season due to an injury, Easton Barlow Easton Barlow 6’0″ | 165 lbs | WR Bowling Green | 2024 State KY still belongs in the top five receivers in the state in his class. He has lined up mainly in the slot where he is able to use his speed to blow by opposing defensive backs in the deep passing game. Barlow has also shown impressive route running ability, using his quick release and breaks in his routes to create separation. Easton currently holds multiple offers and I expect him to make a true impact wherever he decides to play at the next level.
To wrap up our top five receivers in the state of Kentucky in the class of 2024, I have Brandon Houston Brandon Houston 6’2″ | 180 lbs | WR Ashland Blazer | 2024 State KY . Houston had a strong senior year, catching 26 passes for 604 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. He showed the ability to use his speed and quickness to create separation from opposing defensive backs with ease. Houston is also dangerous after the catch, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn short passes into big gains. Brandon also served as his team’s quarterback at times this season, throwing four touchdown passes while also running the ball 16 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns. Houston currently holds multiple offers and I expect him to play a key role on offense wherever he ends up playing at the next level.
