Here is a look at 20 names you should know heading into 2024.
Travis Anderson DE, Oceanside Collegiate – Anderson has great length at defensive end and tight end. He stands 6-foot-3 and uses that to his advantage. He finished the championship win with four tackles, but he helped limit Gray Collegiate to 143 yards rushing.
Joshua Benson OL, Dutch Fork – The 6-foot-7, 320 left tackle might be one of the best linemen in the state next season. He showed good feet and was key in both the running and passing game. He has a chance to still grow, and he definitely stood out among any of the offensive linemen seen this season.
Jason Bish WR, Daniel – Bish is a huge target at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. He caught what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown from five yards out in the 49-48 win over Camden. He three passes for 33 yards in the championship game but will be one of the top returning receivers for the Lions next season.
Taysawn Brown LB, Johnsonville – Brown is a bit undersized for a linebacker but he isn’t afraid to get into the middle of the action. He had seven tackles and one pass breakup in the loss to Christ Church.
Connor Burgess Connor Burgess 5'9" | 195 lbs | LB White Knoll | 2025 SC LB, White Knoll – Burgess is a guy that finished with over 100 tackles this season. He finished with four tackles, a sack and .5 tackles for loss. The junior plays in the middle but he also can drop back in coverage as well as rush the passer as needed. He moves sideline to sideline very well.
Spencer Conn Spencer Conn 5'11" | 215 lbs | LB Daniel | 2025 State SC LB, Daniel – Conn is a guy that plays like his hair is on fire. He’s a tad undersized at 6-foot, 200 pounds but he makes up for that in intensity. He arrives to the ball-carrier with a purpose and delivers big hits a lot of times. He finished the championship game win over Camden with eight tackles and a tackle for loss. The junior linebacker will be a huge ingredient to try and keep the recent successful run for Daniel. The senior class this season leaves with one loss in four years.
Tyler Cockfield OL, South Florence – South Florence only attempt four passes and two came after Westside scored with 15 seconds remaining. The Bruins rushed for 317 yards and Cockfield, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound junior was one of the main reasons that happened.
Devin Geronomi Devin Geronomi 6'0" | 160 lbs | DB White Knoll | 2025 State SC DB, White Knoll – The junior defensive back is very versatile. He can play wide receiver and is vital on special teams as well. He has seven tackles and a tackle for loss in the Class 5A championship game setback to Dutch Fork.
Terry Gordon Terry Gordon 6'0" | 220 lbs | LB South Florence | 2026 State SC LB, South Florence – The Bruins had a senior-laden defense but Gordon (pictured) found his way on the field as a sophomore. He finished the championship game with five tackles and .5 tackles for loss. Gordon already weighs 220 pounds and he could end up transitioning to defensive end if needed in the future.
Jude Hall Jude Hall 6'4" | 170 lbs | WR Christ Church | 2026 State SC WR, Christ Church – The sophomore scored the Cavaliers first touchdown on a 19-yard pass from Tucker Hendrix Tucker Hendrix 6'1" | 170 lbs | QB Christ Church | 2025 State SC . He finished the game with three receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns. He added a 15-yard TD catch later.
Rocky Herd Rocky Herd 6'0" | 270 lbs | OL Daniel | 2025 State SC OL, Daniel – The Lions were very talented on the offensive front, and they have three senior starters so Herd will be counted on heavily next season. Herd is a junior that starts at right guard and his 6-foot, 275-pound frame suits well in the rushing attack. He’s also adept at pass protection.
Max Moorman DE, Oceanside Collegiate – Moorman’s 22-yard interception return for a touchdown was a thing of beauty. He tracked the back out of the backfield, read the quarterback’s eyes and snagged the ball on the fly to race untouched for the score. He finished with six tackles, two tackles for loss and that interception.
Sharode Richardson Sharode Richardson 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Westside | 2025 State SC RB, Westside – Richardson is a two-way player, but he made his mark in the championship game on the offensive side. The junior rushed for 86 yards on nine carries with the highlight being his 70-yard sprint for a touchdown.
Elgin Session DB, Dutch Fork – Session had four tackles in the win over White Knoll. But he proved himself over the season as a great cover corner. He helped limit the Timberwolves to just 56 yards passing and provided great run support in the 21-6 victory.
Trequan Singleton DL, Gray Collegiate – The junior defensive lineman had a state championship game to remember even those the War Eagles came up a little bit short. He finished with seven tackles, five sacks and four tackles for loss.
Wyatt Thompson DB, Camden – The Bulldogs lose a wealth of talent on the defensive side of the ball. but Thompson will be a key returner. The junior registered seven tackles in the title-game loss to Daniel and played well in coverage.
Will Virgilio ATH, Oceanside Collegiate – Virgilio was one of the better athletes spotted this weekend. He caught seven passes for 91 yards and added two rushing touchdowns out of the Wildcat formation. He caught a 26-yard pass on fourth down then scored the game-winning touchdown on the next play with 1:26 remaining in the 35-28 win over Gray Collegiate.
Tyler Waller Tyler Waller 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Gray Collegiate | 2026 State SC QB, Gray Collegiate – Waller, only a sophomore, was under consistent pressure against Oceanside Collegiate but he handled it for the most part. He was the War Eagles leading rusher with 68 yards and he threw for 118 yards and touchdowns of 32 and 26 yards.
Jayden Westbrook WR, Dutch Fork – The Silver Foxes won a state title for the seventh time in eight seasons so the names and faces change, but the success seems to continue. Westbrook only played in eight games this season. He caught three passes for 33 yards in the win over White Knoll. He only had seven catches coming into the game. He’s a shifty receiver that should see his role expand in 2024.
Jameson Wilson Jameson Wilson 5'11" | 185 lbs | ATH Westside | 2025 State SC LB, Westside – Wilson is a versatile performer for the Rams and finished the championship win over South Florence with nine tackles and .5 tackles for loss. He’s 6-foot, 195 pounds and will be a key player as Westside tries to defend its title next season.
