PANHANDLE
Game of the Week: Panhandle (8-1) at Farwell (7-2)
Two of the top small school football teams in the Panhandle collide with the winner assured of finishing no worse than in second place in District 2A-1 (D1). Jonathan Armstrong is an outstanding dual threat QB for Farwell.
Lubbock Monterey at Amarillo: The Sandies face a must-win situation if they want to guarantee themselves a playoff spot. Amarillo risks a three-way tie for third with a loss and they could find themselves out of the playoffs.
Tascosa at Lubbock Coronado: Just like Amarillo, their crosstown rivals, Tascosa faces a must-win situation in terms of the playoffs. A loss would leave the Rebels in a three-way tie for fourth if Amarillo beats Monterey.
Canyon at Pampa: Canyon is currently tied for second in District 4A-3 (D1) but Pampa is winless in the district. The Eagles can catapult to the district title since they own the tie-breaker over district leader Randall by virtue of a 48-7 win on Oct. 20. However, they must hope Dumas loses to Hereford.
Other Games To Watch: Childress at Friona; Plainview at Palo Duro (playoff elimination contest in District 5A-2); Muleshoe at Dalhart; Perryton at Seminole; West Plains at Borger; Dumas at Hereford.
SOUTH PLAINS
Game of the Week: Frenship at San Angelo Central
Frenship may be the No. 1 ranked team in the Lubbock region but the Tigers could find themselves sitting at home for the playoffs if they stumble against struggling San Angelo Central. The Tigers are currently tied for third in District 6A-2. A win should get them in.
Muleshoe at Dalhart: If Muleshoe wins, we would likely have a three-way tie for second in District 3A-2 since Shallowater is expected to beat lowly River Road. This game is important for seeding in the playoffs.
Perryton at Seminole: These two teams are currently tied for second in District 4A-2 (D2) behind West Plains. Seminole QB Wyatt Holmstrom has thrown for over 2,100 yards and 28 TD.
Littlefield at Lubbock Roosevelt (Thur.): There’s a FOUR-way tie for second place in District 3A-4. This game, along with Coahoma-Abernathy, will help untangle the mess.
Coahoma at Abernathy: See above.
Other Games To Watch: Caprock at Lubbock-Cooper; Lake View at Estacado; Lubbock Monterey at Amarillo; Plainview at Palo Duro; New Home at Ropes.
PERMIAN BASIN
Game of the Week: Odessa Permian (5-4) at Midland (8-1)
The stakes are high for the Permian Panthers in this one. Currently they are fifth in the District 6A-2 standings. But in order to get the win Permian needs, they must deal with Midland’s powerful rushing game. As a team, the Bulldogs have gained nearly 3,200 yards on the ground and are averaging 8.4 yards per carry.
Midland Legacy at Odessa: Just like their crosstown rivals, Odessa needs to win to assure a playoff berth. Legacy, though, has one of the top QBs in West Texas with Purdue commit Marcos Davila Marcos Davila 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Midland Lee | 2024 State TX .
Fabens at Fort Stockton: Fort Stockton looks to nail down second place in District 4A-1 (D2). Corbin Luna is an elite RB for Fort Stockton.
Midland Greenwood at Wichita Falls Hirschi: Greenwood looks to nail down a playoff berth.
Alpine at Crane: The District 3A-1 (D2) title is on the line.
Other Games To Watch: Big Spring at Andrews; Monahans at Clint; El Paso Mountain View at Pecos; Sonora at Forsan; Reagan County at Christoval; Iraan at McCamey.
FAR WEST TEXAS
Game of the Week: Bel Air (8-1) at Del Valle (8-1)
The District 5A-1 (D1) title will be decided in this one. Del Valle QB Jake Fette has thrown for nearly 2,000 yards and 23 TD and he’s supported by a solid ground game. Bel Air loves to air it out with QB Noah Moreno, who has passed for 2,548 yards and 32 TD.
Canutillo at El Paso (Thur.): Canutillo looks to wrap up the undisputed District 5A-1 (D2) championship.
Ysleta at Hanks: A playoff spot in District 5A-1 (D1) is up for grabs between these two teams.
Chapin at Andress: Battle for second place behind Canutillo in District 5A-1 (D2).
Americas at Socorro: The Trail Blazers can secure fourth place and the final playoff spot in District 6A-1. Eastwood, Pebble Hills and Montwood have already clinched playoff berths.
Other Games To Watch: Eastwood at Eastlake; EP Coronado at Montwood; El Dorado at Franklin; El Paso Mountain View at Pecos; Riverside at Bowie; Burges at Jefferson.
