Continue ReadingI have seen it every year since I started scouting the Midwest nearly five years ago, prospects making family moves across the country to show off that there is more talent than you would think from an under-recruited state which in this case is South Dakota. Last year Kadoka, SD native (pop. 543) and 2024 football target Jonathon Macfeat Jonathon Macfeat 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Griswold | 2024 State New E made a move with his family to Griswold, CT to better his next-level chances of playing college football in which in my eyes, he certainly has. We get to know Jonathan, who are some suitors on his recruiting trail and much more from this West River South Dakota football prospect making a name for himself playing his senior season on the East Coast.
Q) Introduce yourself, let us know what position/positions you play, what are some things college coaches should know about you football-wise and as a person as well as what you bring to the table at your position?
Jonathon: My name is Jonathon Macfeat Jonathon Macfeat 6'3" | 240 lbs | DL Griswold | 2024 State New E , and I am the starting 2024 defensive tackle at Griswold High School in Griswold, Connecticut and a 2023 transfer from Kadoka Area High School in Western South Dakota. I am very passionate for the game of football that I have been playing since I was eight years old., I show my passion and love every Friday night by bringing out ferocious energy. I am explosive off the ball, a powerful hitter, and have an energetic presence overall. Along with being fast off the ball, my hard-work outmatches my opponents.
Q) What’s your favorite part about the position you play?
Jonathon: My favorite part about playing defensive line is being able to blow up offenses with my first step and create havoc in the backfield.
Q) Do you plan on playing college football and do you have any schools that are recruiting you currently?
Jonathon: My goal is to play college football at the next-level far I have gone on game day visits to UMass-Dartmouth and Framingham State University (MA), who offered me a roster spot. I have current plans to visit Westfield State (MA), Bridgewater State (MA), and Husson College (ME). St. Olaf (MN) is showing interest in me as well.
Q) What’s your recruiting pitch to college coaches about what you could bring to their program on and off the field?
Jonathon: I am a coachable kid that will do anything a college coach wants or needs.. I have a 3.5 GPA, with significant hours of community service time as well. I am a defensive tackle that plays with a high motor and plays with explosive skillsets within the trenches.
Q) What are some skillsets in recent seasons that your coaches told you to develop this season, and how much work this season have you put into improving on those skillsets?
Jonathon: Speed and intensity are what my coaches always told me if I could grow both those skillsets I would be very tough to matchup with. Everyday during this offseason, I would go to the gym and work on my plyometrics and after eight months of working constantly I became very quick off the ball, and it was tough for most offensive linemen to stop me. This work I put in also allowed me to get more reps at tight end as well giving me position flexibility on both sides of the ball for the next-level.
Q) Who is your football mentor? Can be any coach, alumni, family member, etc. anyone that’s had an impact on your football career.
Jonathon: Coach Pete Aubin since transferring to Griswold High School, I have to give him all the credit for my improved performance and skillsets since moving from South Dakota. Everyday at practice, he has given me the tools to be great. Coach Aubin has pushed me as a player to turn my skillsets on the field into something I had never seen before from myself.
Q) What are some things you learned about yourself as a player this season? What are your goals for next season at the next level?
Jonathon: I have always learned from every play you take to make yourself better on the next, and to play that play like it’s your last. The goals I have for the next-level would be getting stronger and gaining weight, and to hopefully get some playing time in my first year.

Tape Evaluation: Jonathon shows off elusive hands with his quick ability to get off blocks. The speed his hands get off also show significantly agility within his 6’3 240 pound frame that plays on all three levels of the field of Griswold High School in Connecticut. Jonathon shows off quick instincts with his vision as his athletic mobility maneuvers more like a linebacker than a defensive linemen in my eyes. I also like the development I have seen with his pursuit angles within the tackle box as he does well working in some very tight windows of opportunity which show off his football IQ. That football IQ also pops out extremely well as a three-level player on special teams and I love the downhill presence Jonathon has as usually one of the first attackers downfield despite a bigger frame than other gunners. His reactive instincts show off plenty of upside to grow into the next-level as this hidden gem from Kadoka, South Dakota that certainly made his probable next-level presence known from his play in the 2023 season on the East Coast.
