The freshman season for many can be a confusing one when it comes to things like growth spurts, joining the high school program for the first time, position changes, and the game speeding up. However, with all of the adjusting that being a freshman requires, some freshmen go through the transition seamlessly. Let’s take a look at a few of the freshmen who fit this category.
George Olaitan I 2027 I WR I 5’11 140 I Deerfield HS
George Olaitan is a vertical route savage for the Deerfield program. At 5’11 140, Olaitan has the size to get small enough to locate the soft areas in the zone coverage while being big enough to break tackles for yards after catch. He has soft hands and uses them instead of his body to grab passes out of the air. He is an apex catcher of the ball meaning that he meets the ball at the high points with natural awareness. Ultimately, Olaitan does not play like a freshman and is expected to continue to develop as a big play receiver.
Logan Spalding I 2027 I QB I 6’0 170 I Kerrville HS
Logan Spalding is a promising young field general for Kerrville. He displays sound pocket awareness and footwork. Spalding is a pre-snap reader of the defense and seems to process information well at the freshman level. Spalding is poise and delivers a great ball to all receivers within the route tree. At times Spalding has shown the ability to make off-platform tosses while throwing his presumed receiver open. Look for him to continue to develop his game and skill set.
Landen Williams-Callis Landen Williams-Callis 5'8" | 180 lbs | RB Randle | 2027 State TX I 2027 I ATH I 5’8 180 I Richmond HS
Williams-Callis is no stranger to the bright lights as he is also an AAU track and field star. Williams-Callis boasts verified times of 10.61 100 meter dash, 21.85 200 meter dash, and a laser 4.48 forty. Imagine that type of speed on the field against older opponents who don’t value the art of training speed. The results always end up with Williams-Callis finding daylight and the endzone while the opponent struggles in pursuit only to become a highlight film victim. This kid plays several positions on the field on both sides of the ball so let’s just call his primary position “Impact Player”.
Cavin Rhoads Jr I 2027 I OT,OG,NT I 6’0 320 I LaMarque HS
Cavin Rhoads is a road grader on the field; no pun intended. Big number 77 is a powerfully built interior lineman who understands his body composition in tandem with proper leverage. Rhoads is able to drop his hips to attain underneath leverage within his assignment be it offense or defense. His nature to dominate causes him to consistently pursue the pancake block or blow up the play on defense by dominating his gap in a nose-to-the-ball effort. Standing at 6 feet and still growing, look for Rhoads to trim and refine his body to match his tenacity for four quarters. This kid is a load of a freshman and I look forward to him being a name in the years to come.
Bryson Dossett Bryson Dossett 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Ridge Point | 2027 TX I 2027 I ATH I 5’10 150 I Missouri City TX
Bryson Dossett Bryson Dossett 5'10" | 155 lbs | ATH Ridge Point | 2027 TX comes from great football stock and is next in line of quality athletes who come from Missouri City, Texas. Dossett is a natural on the field with or without the ball. He understands the game and it’s obvious that he spends the extra time working on paying attention to fundamentals. His ability to play both offense and defense contributes to his overall football IQ. Dossett can play from the slot or extended receiver position and can also track the ball extremely well as a safety. Either way, Dossett is an impact player on both sides of the ball as a freshman and a cog in the future plans of the Missouri City program.
