Mangini posted an all-time section championship performance accounting for 10 total TDs (6 pass, 4 rush) and over 500 yards of offense in LJCD’s 73-34 win over Grossmont in the D-III final. The Navy-commit has played his best football in the playoffs recording over 1,000 passing yards and nearly 20 total TDs in the team’s past four games. La Jolla Country Day will travel to Banning (Wilmington) for a spot in the 5-A state championship this Saturday 12/2 at 7pm.
Isaiah Hasten
Isaiah Hasten
Hasten was the best perimeter player on both sides of the ball recording 2 INTs, several PBUs, and 5 catches for 96 yards in St. Augustine’s 13-0 shutout of Mission Hills in the D-I championship. He showed great length (6’3/180), catch radius, and ball skills extending for passes outside his frame and capitalizing on mistakes in the secondary. Hasten’s established himself as one of the most underrated two-way skill players in San Diego with 60 catches for over 1,100 yards and 11 TDs on offense and 7 INTs on defense. St. Augustine will face St. Bonaventure (Ventura) in the 1-A Regional at Mesa College this Saturday 12/2 at 7pm.
Castillo turned 4 catches into 88 yards and 3 TDs and recorded an INT on defense in Mount Miguel’s 35-14 win over Chula Vista in the D-IV title game. The senior WR/DB has been one of the most dynamic playmakers in San Diego this season totaling 60 catches for over 1,100 yards and 17 TDs and 5 INTs on defense. Castillo picked up a D-II offer from Gannon in late October. Mount Miguel will face a talented Mayfair (Lakewood) team in the 3-A Regional at Ron Yary Stadium (Bellflower) on Saturday 12/2 at 6pm.
Jack Schneider
Jack Schneider
Schneider was extremely efficient through the air completing 14/17 passes for 223 yards and 2 TDs in Del Norte’s 31-15 victory over La Jolla in the D-II championship. The senior QB also ran for another 90 yards. Schneider’s done a great job of taking care of the football (1 INT in last 11 games), getting the ball into the hands of his WR playmakers, and playing complementary football with support from a strong defensive unit. Del Norte will host Birmingham (Lake Balboa) in the 3-AA Regional this Friday 12/1 at 7:30pm.
