7A
Camden County
Camden County is not a huge underdog verse the defending State Champs at 14 points but it will be a tough test on the road. The Wildcats are road warriors winning both of their opening round games on the road. They shut out McEachern 26-0 last week and beat #7 Newton 29-15 in the opening round. This will be Camdens first trip to the QF round in 11 years.
Player to Watch:
DeNigel Cooper (DE/LB) The 6’5 230 DE/LB is one to keep an eye on Friday. The recent App St commit is a presence, especially when he is standing up at LB. Great 1st step and athleticism. Good football IQ and recognizes plays well, attacks fast. The Mountaineer fans will be happy with this guy the next 4 years in Boone.
6A
Lee County
Lee County being the biggest underdog in the Class at just 7 points show just how competitive the 6A Class is top to bottom. Lee is the only non #1 seed left in the 6A Quarterfinal. They will be making the trip North this week to take on #3 Douglas Co, who has been the surprise of the 6A Class in 2023.
Player to Watch:
Braxton Honer (RB) The 5’8 155 2024 RB had an outstanding 2nd Rd performance last week in a 50-6 win over Lovejoy. He accounted for 214 yards total rushing and receiving and scored 2 TDs. Tough back that for his size is not afraid to run it between the tackles. Has the speed to get the ball to the edge. He has good hands out of the backfield and would make a good slot at the next level. Has received an offer from Reinhardt and as Lee Co advances we expect interest to pick up.
5A
Jenkins
Jenkins is the only sub .500 and 4 seed teams left in the tournament at any level. They travel North to undefeated Cartersville on Friday as 4 TD underdogs.
Players to Watch
Lorenzo Cowen (TE/DE) The 6’4 220 3-star Kentucky commit is one to watch Friday as Jenkins tries to slow the Cartersville run game. Great size and length, which he showed last week blocking a Dutchtown XP late to secure a 28-27 upset. Sets the edge well and excellent in pursuit. Great frame that has the ability to add good weight when he gets to Lexington. Look for this guy to be a playmaker in the SEC down the road.
4A
North Oconee
It’s hard to believe the #2 ranked team and still undefeated Titans are the biggest underdogs in 4A this week but they are headed to Savannah to play defending Champ Benedictine. North Oconee will have to knock off last years State Champ and State Runner Up in back to back weeks. They took care of Cedartown last week 35-9 opening up a big 2nd half after only leading 14-7 at the half.
Player to Watch
Tate Titshaw (RB/DB) The 5’11 202 speedster and Navy football commit is fun to watch. Titshaw changes speed as well as anybody and he weaves his way through traffic. Physical kid that runs through contact and can turn on the jets and blow by you. Sports a 3.8 GPA and is eligible for early graduation. Chose Navy over 8 other offers.
