Continue ReadingThe playoffs in Virginia are finally set and we are 48 hours away from the first round kicking off, get your popcorn ready! In Class 6 region B there is plenty of action and intrigue that should start to get sorted out later this week. Here are 8 players to watch out as they begin battle shortly:
Part of a loaded 2025 class McCarter has been as advertised for the Pioneers, leading the conference in rushing yards by a wide margin. He is a special talent with track speed out on the football field. Their rematch against crosstown rival Battlefield is once again must see football, all of Haymarket, Virginia may be in attendance for this one. McCarter knows the Bobcats will be keying on him as most teams have tried to do all year. He has the speed and vision though if one defender errors, he can take it to the house.

O’Shea has been tremendous in his first year as starting quarterback for Battlefield, leading the Bobcats a perfect 10-0 regular season. Just last week in their come from behind win over Patriot he lead them on numerous scoring drives and threw for 2 touchdown passes. The young man has stared adversity in the face and said no thanks I got this and this Friday will be his next chapter. Behind his excellent offensive line, the Binkowski brothers and Darian Whitaker, he has plenty of back up. I cannot wait for the outcome of this game as each matchup is always decided by one score or less.

Aidan McClafferty

The Cardinals were back in the win column last week and now march onto their first playoff appearance in school history! What a season for Coach Bruton and the Gainesville community, but it is not over yet. They travel to face Colonial Forge Friday night, and they need to get star receiver Aidan McLafferty involved early and often.

Josiah Bryson Josiah Bryson 5’9″ | 200 lbs | RB Colonial Forge | 2025 State VA has had a good junior campaign and he looks to be another stud running back to come out of Virginia’s 2025 class. He was selected first team all-commonwealth and it was more than deserved. The Eagles lone blemish this year came against Mountain View, other than that not many schools have figure out how to slow this young man down.

Tyler Shulsky
Tyler Shulsky
The Bruins needed a win badly last Friday as their once clear playoff picture had simmered in recent weeks with a couple of tough losses. You might be thinking Forest Park did what they do and ran the ball at will, well that was not quite the case. Senior quarterback Tyler Shulsky threw for 5 touchdown passes as he lead his team to a dominating victory and back into the playoffs. If you don’t know, Forest Park is a run first team that may throw 2-3 times per contest, so seeing any quarterback have more than 1 passing score is impressive enough. Shulsky will need to be mistake free this week as his opponents will almost certainly be keying on his teammate and star running back Landon Hunt Landon Hunt 5’10” | 210 lbs | RB Forest Park | 2025 State VA . The signal caller has the arm strength and accuracy needed when called upon, just ask the Bulldogs.
Etienne Somuah

The Mountain View Wildcats capped off another perfect regular season last week and look to be serious contenders for the Region B title. One reason why is the play of their outstanding defense that flooded the Commonwealth district with first team selections. Senior defensive back Etienne Somuah is the real deal and is the definition off a ballhawk. He capped off his great final high school year with 6 interceptions and 0 touchdowns allowed, not too bad. He will have a tough assignment this week with the bevy of playmakers for Forest Park, one assignment that I am sure he is ready for.

Kaden Lewis
Kaden Lewis
Potomac may have back pedaled into the playoffs, but that still does not downplay the Panthers getting their in the first place. Their was not a ton of expectations this past season but the fact they have a game this week and so many other schools don’t says something about Coach Johnson and his staff. One of the reasons the Panthers are in has been the play of senior Kaden Lewis. The second team all conference selection will need to have a big game in the david vs. goliath type matchup against Freedom. Lewis had a tremendous season at both receiver and corner for Potomac and has a chance to keep it going with another monster outing.
