In this scouting report, we will take a closer look at some of the players to watch in the 3A semifinals, highlighting their strengths, and overall impact on their respective teams.
Cagle rarely lunges, staying square throughout the entirety of each rep. Cagle plays with excellent pad level and he can sit down and anchor at the point of attack in pass protection. Power rushers struggled to bull rush Cagle with consistency. His core strength and grip strength also stood out in the passing game. When Cagle gets a hold of pass rushers, he is able to latch onto them and sustain his blocks. In the run game, Cagle is very explosive on reach blocks and when asked to move to the second level. Cagle’s balance and control are on full display on the move. He is able to find defenders at the second level and seal them off, creating running lanes for ball carriers. His strength shows up in the run game.

Anderson displays lateral bounce to survey multiple gaps and tremendous footwork that leads to some really clean cuts. He’s patient with his blockers and has the burst to shoot through rushing lanes once they open. Anderson isn’t shy about finishing through contact and making sure he falls forward. Anderson is a dynamic offensive weapon who displays excellent polish, patience, and footwork.
Brown contact balance and strength pop immediately. Brings a pile with him and falls forward. Stays tight through the hole with clean feet and sharp vision. Fast enough to run stretch plays to the perimeter, and can gash the seam on inside zone. Drops his pads and maintains ball security when raking through defenders. Makes the correct cut when his hole opens and has the burst to turn into a big gain.

Johnson recognizes play action to gain depth and finds ball carriers, triggering quickly when he has a free run at them. He is a great tackler, wrapping opponents up on a consistent basis. His effort is apparent, running down plays and making tackles downfield. In coverage, he locates vertical routes and is able to turn and run before passing them off to safeties. Johnson is a reliable tackler with good eyes and recognition skills.
Kelly has a sufficient lateral agility to side-step linemen and fill into his assigned gap. Beats the opposing guard or tackle to his spot repeatedly, using acceleration and a dip technique to stay untouched. Knows his angles, leading to minimal excess in terms of yardage. Not afraid to get dirty as needed, plunging into blockers on wide zone plays to let defenders behind him fill. Useful Blitzer that uses downhill explosion to disrupt the quarterback’s timing or pop in his pads to displace linemen. Impressive fluidity for his size, showing loose hips that empower him to drop into coverage. Range and instincts are most apparent here, where he surveys passing lanes and covers multiple reads at a time.
