The Class of 2027 just finished up their first season of HS football across Illinois. Many are finding their way, learning the game, and growing as athletes. Among the masses are a handful of freshman who have put out impressive film that should excite people for the future and potential of these athletes. In this article, we are going to dive into that film and take a look at some freshmen that have started their careers off on a high note.
Tristan is looking like an exciting threat out of the backfield. When it comes to scouting HS football you are looking for the athletes who stand out from the crowd. You really want to see that at the younger levels even more. That is what Tristan did in 2023. His tape shows his superior athleticism including long speed and quick twitch. He is showing a well rounded game, making big plays between the tackles, out in space, and as a receiver. His vision is developing nicely, shown by him quickly finding running lanes, and setting up defenders or making them miss one on one. Tristan looks like a future mismatch nightmare. Keep an eye on the freshman.

Big things are ahead for the Mount Carmel freshman QB. Ryder is a natural passer with a ton of arm talent and upside. The freshman is only 6′ 150 lbs, but can already push the ball downfield with effective velocity. The accuracy and touch look like that of a seasoned veteran. Ryder is able to place the ball right where it needs to be, whether it is right over the shoulder, back shoulder, or right at his man. Startz is also an effetive runner with the ball. The speed and vision is there to make him a reliable dual threat. Check out the tape. This kid is on the rise early.

Jake is another exciting athlete to know in the Class of 2027. The freshman looks like a naturally gifted RB. He thrived between the tackles in 2023. Jake has shown that he has the power and balance to be able to rip through tackle attempts or lower the shoulder and earn the tough yards. Thies also stands out from the crowd, or runs away from the crowd, with his game breaking speed. Jake has developing instincts with the ball too. It seems like he always knows where the open grass is, and where his blocks are set up. I’ll be following the freshman going forward.

Mount Carmel has a special OL prospect in their freshman Class. Josiah Wallace Josiah Wallace 6’6″ | 250 lbs | OL IL possesses an elite frame at 6’6″ 250 lbs, and he carries it so well, and has plenty of room to continue to grow and add strength. That is scary because the freshman tape is full of Josiah bullying his opponent with his power. Wallace has a strong base to drive DL off the ball, heavy hands to not only deliver a hard first contact but also steer and control DL. Josiah is a solid athlete too. He can move in space, stay on his block downfield, and has the flexibility to get low and hit his target on the smaller athletes he faces. Big things are ahead for the 2027 OT. He is a need to know prospect.
