When it comes to getting it done on both sides of the ball these two teams are set to go head to head Friday Oct 20th in an early preview of what’s to come in the 5A playoffs here soon. Smithson Valley has University of Texas commit Freddie Dubose Jr leading the pack in that loaded Smithson Valley offense. The key to this game will be to score early and often if either team wants to come out on top. If Boerne Champion beats Smithson Valley I don’t see them losing another game in the regular season heading into the playoffs.
Alamo Heights 7-0 vs Edison 1-6
Alamo Heights is having one of the best seasons in the history of their school with standout 4 star ATH Micheal Terry at the helm and being a major part of the teams success. I don’t expect undefeated Alamo Heights to slow down against 1-6 Edison this weekend.
Sam Houston 5-2 vs Brackenridge 0-7
Sam Houston is 5-2 and looks like a completely different program than they were a year ago and Senior ATH Jeremiah Espitia, Na’Qwentis Brooks and Jaden Servantez are the key contributors in this team success. Head Coach Jeremy Williams has this Sam Houston team focused and prepared for a lengthy playoff run but they can’t afford to take 0-7 Brackenridge lightly this weekend.
Wagner 5-2 vs Hays 3-4
Years ago Wagner branched off from Judson and was considered one of the top teams in Texas high school football even without winning a state championship and they moved up and down 6A and 5A and making immediate impacts. This year they are 5-2 and no win was within 10 points which just goes to show how dominant they’ve been. Wagner faces off against a struggling 3-4 Hays team but that doesn’t mean if Hays controls the clock and can limit their turnovers that they can’t win this game.
Clemens 4-3 vs New Braunfels 3-4
Last week Clemens beat one of their cross town rivals Judson 24-17 so Clemens looks to keep their momentum going as they face off against tough New Braunfels team. New Braunfels is 3-4 but their record isn’t an indication of how good of a team they are especially with standout WR Lance Beeghley. Clemens needs to limit their turnovers and take a few deep shots on offense and they can win this game. New Braunfels likes to run the ball often and once you load the box they’ll hit you deep.
