Heritage and Summit were both playoff teams in 2022. Heritage came into the contest unbeaten, while Summit was also on a winning streak having won two straight district contest. Heritage won in dominant fashion 42-7, leaving no doubt that they are a favorite to come out of District 5-5A DII. There were key players who flashed on both teams and we will take a look at those ballers who shined brightly under the Thursday Night Lights.
Sarratt is a versatile player who made his presence felt on both offense and defense. As a wide receiver, he exhibited excellent route-running skills, sharp breaks, and the speed to stretch the field vertically. Sarratt also showcased great short-area quickness, allowing him to make quick cuts and create separation. His reliable hands and ability to track the ball in the air made him a favorite target for his quarterback. Furthermore, his athleticism was on full display during a memorable touchdown run where he hurdled a defender in the end zone. On the defensive side, Sarratt played cornerback effectively, using his press coverage skills, superb instincts, disciplined eye for the ball, and even securing a key interception for a pick-six. With offers from Texas A&M Commerce and interest from Boise State, he’s a player to watch for in the future.

Johnson, an edge player, has already committed to Oklahoma State, and his performance in this matchup showcased why. His explosive first step allowed him to burst off the line and put pressure on the opposing quarterback consistently. He demonstrated a knack for reading plays and closing in on ball carriers with impressive speed. Standing at 6’3″ and weighing 210 pounds, Johnson possesses great length and long arms, making him a versatile player who can disrupt offenses from various angles. His disruptive presence in the backfield throughout the game made him a defensive force for Midlothian Heritage.
Amare displayed an explosive and dynamic running style. His cat-like quickness, twitchy movements, and impressive speed allowed him to separate from defenders effectively. Burgess exhibited his agility and elusiveness in the open field, quickly finding holes and bursting through them. Despite having a 100-yard kickoff return nullified by a penalty, he showcased his breakaway speed, acceleration, cutback ability, and elite change of direction. Burgess is undoubtedly a playmaker for Summit and an athlete to keep an eye on in future matchups.
Despite Summit’s challenging game, Buhake, a junior defensive end, shined brightly on the defensive side. At 6’2″ and 245 pounds, he disrupted plays in the backfield, notching a couple of sacks. His athleticism off the edge was evident, as he flashed his ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt offensive plays. Buhake’s performance was a notable bright spot for Summit’s defense, indicating his potential as a key player for the team in the future.
