The DeMatha Stags destroyed Rock Creek Chrstian by 42 points over the weekend, and, right now, they look like the best team in the WCAC. Let's take a closer look at the standout players from Saturday night's game for the Stags.

2025 6'0 190 QB - [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] - DeMatha

At the moment, there isn't a quarterback prospect in the entire DMV area that is playing better football than [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] of DeMatha. There also isn't a prospect that I have written about more exclusively this season than Gardner, and the reason for that is he is simply playing way better than everybody else. He's on track to be the unanimous 1st Team All-WCAC QB selection, and, at this rate, he and the Stags will secure a spot in the WCAC game. Over the weekend, Gardner accounted for 3 total touchdowns in the first half alone, and his team completely overwhelmed Rock Creek Chrstian on the way to a 42-0 shutout victory. This comes just days after the University of Houston officially sent an offer to Gardner. There's no doubt in my mind that [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] will be a competitive quarterback at the power five conference level, and it's clear that he is a student of the game who is constantly improving his craft and getting better. Gardner and the Stags will put their unblemished record on the line yet again this weekend in an All-Time rivalry game against Gonzaga for the commencement of the WCAC regular season.

2025 6'1 170 WR - [player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes'] - DeMatha

[player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes'] dominated his matchups against Rock Creek Christian, and he has really established himself as a go-to option at receiver for [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] over the past few games. Ordenes secured 2 TD catches for a combined 50 yards on Saturday, outplaying all other pass catchers in the game as a result. While DeMatha has a ton of depth at the wide receiver position, [player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes'] has been so impressive for the Stags that the coaching staff now have no choice but to get him the ball at least a few times per game. He most definitely earned it, and I believe that Ordenes is in a premier position to put up solid numbers every single week of the season for DeMatha. His presence at receiver is extremely valuable for them, especially come playoff time. Wide receiver scouts everywhere must know the name [player_tooltip player_id='372393' first='Vincent' last='Ordenes'] sooner rather than later!

2026 6'3 170 DB - [player_tooltip player_id='401996' first='Darrell' last='Carey'] - DeMatha

[player_tooltip player_id='401996' first='Darrell' last='Carey'] put forth a dominant defensive effort in this contest, and he earned my Defensive Player of the Game award as a result. Carey ran back a 65 yard interception return to the house for a pick six, extending DeMatha's lead by six touchdowns. He jumped the route fast, made a spectacular play on the ball, and then promptly took it all the way to the end zone untouched. His highlight reel play is a fantastic representation of how incredibly well the DeMatha defensive played as a unit, and the Stag defenders were so dominant, in fact, that Rock Creek Christian did not score a single point in the entire game. [player_tooltip player_id='401996' first='Darrell' last='Carey'] is absolutely one of the most exciting young defensive prospects in the WCAC, and I believe that his DB prowess adds a lot of depth to their already elite defensive unit. He definitely has D1 offers coming his way!

2025 5'10 185 RB - Bud Coombs - DeMatha

With a short touchdown run, Bud Coombs opened up the scoring for the Stags against Rock Creek Christian, and, from that point forward, the game was over. Coombs averages nearly 100 yards and multiple touchdowns on the season so far, and he continues to absolutely dominate at the line of scrimmage for his team. Bud Coombs and [player_tooltip player_id='250315' first='Denzel' last='Gardner'] in tandem is unanimously the scariest rushing backfield in the WCAC, and their efficiency and comfort out of the read-option formation is becoming more and more unstoppable with every snap. Coombs clearly deserves All-WCAC recognition this year, and my prediction is that he runs for more than one hundred yards and multiple touchdown scores this weekend against Gonzaga. The Stags will definitely want to get him the ball early in this huge conference opening weekend game versus their longtime rivals. They will also look to keep their 5-0 unbeaten record alive!

2024 6'0 175 WR - Cody Williams - DeMatha

Cody Williams put both his next level athleticism and premier pass catching ability on full display against Rock Creek Christian. He took on multiple defenders at a time, and he still managed to find open space and make plays with relative ease. Williams hauled-in a 30 yard touchdown score to bring the score to 28-0, and this touchdown essentially sealed the deal for DeMatha in this game. Cody Williams is a very important Senior leader and playmaker for the Stags, and his phenomenal game against RCC is great evidence to support his All-WCAC season. I am predicting another superb effort from him this weekend against the Gonzaga Purple Eagles. There's zero doubt in my mind that he will be ready to play in this historic rivalry game under the Friday night lights!
