This article looks at five specific players lighting up Southwest Missouri. Below, I detail the next level tools I saw each of these prospects display early this season.
Davin Thomas Davin Thomas 6’0″ | 175 lbs | WR Joplin | 2025 State MO is one of several next level prospects out of Joplin. He has been invited to game day visits at South Dakota State and the University of Miami in Ohio this fall. Coaches notice Davin’s next level explosiveness when they see him take bubble screens through traffic and into the endzone with ease. Good strength and quick feet get displayed fighting through contact and separating from defenders at the top of routes. Don’t be surprised when Davin’s first offer comes in before the holidays begin.
Brady Buckman Brady Buckman 6’3″ | 210 lbs | TE Logan-Rogersville | 2024 MO is one of several talented prospects out of Rogersville. He received an offer from Avila University this month and also visited Henderson State. Expect Brady to receive more offers before the new year gets here. Brady’s toughness and next level power shows running defenders over in the open field. Good speed and athleticism get displayed pulling away from defenders after the catch. Coaches see Brady’s next level burst and playmaking ability when he consistently slices through traffic running jet sweeps for Logan-Rogersville’s offense.
Highlights
Paxton Wehner
Paxton Wehner
Paxton Wehner may be the most underrated tight end in Missouri. Paxton received an offer from Nebraska last month, so watch for more schools outside Missouri to offer the talented prospect before he decides to commit. Paxton’s size, drive, and quick feet give him the potential to be a solid inline run blocker at the next level. Good athleticism shows in Paxton’s balance as a ball carrier and adjustment ability at the catchpoint. Next level burst and power displayed running through defenders for huge plays highlights Paxton’s ability to be a playmaker in college.
Isaiah Jones Isaiah Jones 6’2″ | 215 lbs | QB West Plains | 2025 MO is one of the most underrated 2025 QBs in the state. The good-sized QB has been to several camps, and I would expect his first offer to come in before 2024 gets here. Isaiah shows a good combination of mobility, poise, and accuracy consistently staying inside the pocket to deliver deep balls under pressure. Next level arm strength shows leading receivers horizontally on tough intermediate throws. Coaches like Isaiah’s ability to extend plays with his arm or legs when pressure forces him to make plays on the run. Watch for Isaiah’s recruitment to heat up as his junior season ends.
There is no telling how high Jackson Cantwell rises in the national rankings by the time his junior year gets here. He already holds countless FBS offers and is sure to have schools from every inch of the country line up to recruit him during his high school career. Jackson’s rare combination of size, speed, and power shows right away swallowing up linebackers with just a few movements off the line of scrimmage. Coaches love Jackson’s power and explosiveness that gets displayed removing defensive linemen from the point of attack. Good flexibility, lateral quickness, and a powerful punch highlight Jackson’s ability to be an elite pass blocker at the next level. Don’t be surprised when Jackson is labeled the #1 recruit in Missouri before his high school career is finished.
