It is now week 6 in Section V football! Which also means that we have hit the month of October which is a beautiful time for football. Take a look below of the recap from this past weekend's games where teams are looking to make that final push into the season.

10/05: Irondequoit vs. Webster-Thomas

A Friday night showdown between Irondequoit High School and Webster-Thomas where both teams were coming off two tough losses this past week. In this game, it was Irondequoit who was able to get the win as they scored 24 points. One of the most interesting plays of the entire game was a fake field goal that was run by Webster-Thomas close to the goal-line. The fake ended up with senior LB [player_tooltip player_id='1649262' first='Cameron' last='Miller'] intercepting the pass and returning it for a TD. The hustle by Miller to get down the sideline and outrun the Webster-Thomas FG unit was a thrill to see. That was not the only interception made on the day either. DB [player_tooltip player_id='1621895' first='Christian' last='Freeman'] was also able to intercept a ball thrown deep down the field. It was a really gritty win by Irondequoit with a tough 1-yard TD run by [player_tooltip player_id='527868' first='Jordan' last='Nolan']. Irondequoit had 309 total yards with 264 of those yards coming on the ground.

10/06: McQuaid Jesuit vs. Hilton

Under the lights here during this contest between McQuaid Jesuit High and Hilton High School. This was a huge game coming into it, and certainly it did not disappoint with McQuaid sneaking out the win against a tough football team in Hilton. McQuaid's QB [player_tooltip player_id='838696' first='Will' last='DiMarco'] once again was able to show up for his football team and made impressive throws all over the field to set his offensive up for promising opportunities. To secure the lead early, there was an 18-yard TD run by RB [player_tooltip player_id='527872' first='Eoin' last='Meyer'] who was to hit the left end zone pylon by divining for it. A great play to get the offense going by Meyer and to put 6 points on the board for his team. McQuaid was able to force a huge turnover by causing a fumble behind the LOS. For Hilton, they did have some impressive plays including a kickoff return by the speedy [player_tooltip player_id='604515' first='Robert' last='Lowry'] and an impressive leaping TD catch by TE [player_tooltip player_id='1209024' first='Conner' last='Bellanca']. In all, it was not enough for Hilton to win the game. The McQuaid defense showed up and controlled Robert Lowery in the ground game. A big win for McQuaid as we move forward into the season.

10/07: Greece Arcadia vs Greece Athena

A huge rivalry game here between Greece Arcadia and Greece Athena that took place on Saturday. What was also huge in this game was how well the defenses played for both teams all day long. The final score was 13 to 7 with Greece Arcadia walking away with the win over Greece Athena. The play that really helped get Greece Arcadia going was a huge 35-yard run by [player_tooltip player_id='527789' first='Dashaun' last='McClemmon']. Greece Arcadia lined up in the pistol where McClemmon was able to burst through the hole with his explosive acceleration. The biggest defensive play was a LB blitz by Quinnten Workman to get into the backfield to cause a safety. Workman shot right throw the A-gap to secure a clean tackle on the ball carrier for 2 points. When facing a 2nd &14 in the 4th quarter, QB Dashaun Caesar was able to make a throw under pressure where senior Dominic Zona was able to make an outstanding diving catch inside the 20-yard line of Greece Athena. To seal the win, Caesar was able to find TE [player_tooltip player_id='391719' first='Xavier' last='Smith'] on a slant route for a TD. Such a hard fought win for Greece Arcadia.

10/07: Honeoye Falls-Lima vs. Rochester Prep

It was a high scoring game produced by Honeoye Falls-Lima as they scored 45 points to put away Rochester Prep. When it came to Rochester Prep, they were able to score 24 points, but it simply was not enough to keep up. QB [player_tooltip player_id='254885' first='Matthew' last='Meacham'] was able to deal all game long for Honeoye Falls-Lima. Early on, Meacham delivered a 13-yard TD pass to WR Landon Hammond on a simple post route. Then we saw a beautiful 41-yard TD pass to Hammond again where the ability to stay focused on the ball deep down the field was outstanding work to see from Hammond. Meacham then was able to roll out of the pocket to find Andrew Wanzenried on a 6-yard TD and was effective again to find Drew Angelo on a 14-yard TD. You assume that was it from Meacham, but then he launched a 54-yard TD to Wanzenried again who was wide open to walk in for his second TD of the day. A very impressive showing from Meacham again to help improve the record for Honeoye Falls-Lima.
