Butler’s senior running back has been having himself a season. Kyle Perry Kyle Perry 5’9″ | 185 lbs | LB Butler | 2024 NJ has not only ran for 20 touchdowns, but is on the verge of surpassing the 1000 yard rushing mark. This is a big time running back, good luck trying to stop him once he builds up some momentum. Kyle is especially impressive when running between the tackles. He is notorious for lowering the shoulder and handing it to would-be tacklers.
Connor Laverty Connor Laverty 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB Bernards | 2024 State NJ has lead Bernards to an undefeated regular season, and will look to continue that straight through November. The gun slinging lefty is a threat to any defense he goes up against. Bernards has a pass attack that, when going at full capacity, can be extremely difficult to stop.
Connor puts his team in position to put up points no matter where they are on the field. With the arm strength he has, he’s able to condense “60 yards to go” into one play. On top of that, Connor is very careful with the ball and isn’t one to make unwise throws. With 14 touchdowns to 1 interception, and 10 touchdowns on the ground, Connor has been the focal point of this offense’s success.
Another stud running back in the North, Carter Shallcross has been lethal for Summit’s offense. With 1318 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns, Carter has been a great back between the tackles and also when he gets outside of them. When running through the middle, defenders need to get low and fully wrap him up, because if they don’t, there’s a good chance they’ll bounce right off as Carter continues on.
Carter is a running back equipped with great vision, capable of finding cut back lanes and darting through them. He is fast, and once he gets to the second level he is gone. Look for him to make some big plays this weekend in the semifinals.
Highlights
If you’re looking for an elite running back, come to Sayreville. This team handed Montgomery their first loss of the season in the quarterfinals, and a big part of that success can be attributed to Zaimer Wright Zaimer Wright 6’0″ | 180 lbs | RB Sayreville | 2024 State NJ with his 5 touchdowns and 233 yards on ground.
With 1372 yards 19 touchdowns on the season so far, and another 193 yards 3 touchdowns through the air, you won’t find many backs in the state that are capable of what Zaimer is. This is a player with great vision and patience with the ball in his hands. He tends to follow his blockers and bursts through the seam once it opens. A strong force in the backfield, it would be a mistake to try to tackle Zaimer up high. He needs to be gang tackled if you want to have any hope of bringing him to the ground. Zaimer is a D1 caliber player that needs more eyes on him.
The junior QB out of Phillipsburg, Jett Genovese Jett Genovese 5’10” | 200 lbs | QB Phillipsburg | 2025 NJ , has been one of the best quarterbacks in western New Jersey throughout the season. He is a true playmaker and is able to make a play out of what appears to be nothing. With 985 passing yards and 12 touchdowns, Jett has been very impressive in the pocket and on the run. One of Jett’s greatest attributes is he rarely gets flustered in the pocket. He stays calm and collected and delivers the ball on target with pressure all around him. Jett is a D1 QB in the making.
