A battle of two of the top private schools in Northern New Jersey is set for this upcoming Saturday. Both teams have exceeded expectations thus far this season, and are sure to continue surprising the state come playoff time. Pope John is coming off of a 45-6 blow out win over Immaculata this past weekend and are looking to continue that momentum into the week versus Delbarton. Pope John has one of the most well balanced teams in the state. Extremely talented on both sides of the ball, they have not only lit up the scoreboard but have also shut down opposing offenses. The offense is lead by the Temple commit [player_tooltip player_id='172835' first='Chris' last='Dietrich']. Chris has already matched his junior season passing touchdowns this year (11 touchdowns), and he is on the verge of exceeding his passing yards total for last year as well (currently at 1048 yards.) This past attack is special, but what makes the offense dangerous overall is the man in the backfield, [player_tooltip player_id='344220' first='Tylik' last='Hill']. Truly one of my favorite running backs out of NJ in the 2025 class, Tylik has accumulated 832 yards and 12 touchdowns already. Scouts need to give this kid more attention before it's too late. The defensive unit has also been holding their own with a very strong pass rush with multiple defenders contributing to the effort. The two that stand out the most are Sir Paris Jones and Joe Pappa. Sir Paris Jones has made his impact known all across the field, as he has racked up 37 tackles, 4 sacks, and forced 2 fumbles. Joe Pappa is not far behind with 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a forced fumble as well.

Delbarton is no easy opponent. Coming into the game with only one loss as well, they steam rolled Paramus Catholic last weekend 45-0. This defensive unit is getting it done. With talent at multiple levels on defense, Delbarton always has a good shot at forcing a turnover or making a momentum changing play. [player_tooltip player_id='271010' first='Dallas' last='Hurley'] has been one of the early stars for the team. The linebacker has 34 tackles on the season and a sack to go with it. [player_tooltip player_id='739691' first='Connor' last='Martin'] is one of the other studs teams need to watch out for on the defensive front, as he has 2 sacks, 21 tackles, and a forced fumble though 5 games. This game should be a close matchup and is the reason why it is the first "Game to Watch" for the weekend.

Jackson Memorial (5-0) vs. Marlboro (5-0)

10/7 12pm at Marlboro

This matchup is going to be highlighted by two of the most lethal runners in the state; [player_tooltip player_id='212391' first='Jonah' last='Glenn'] and [player_tooltip player_id='220154' first='Matt' last='Cassidy']. Jonah is 2 yards away from surpassing the 1000 yard mark on the season, and even has 9 touchdowns to go with it. [player_tooltip player_id='220154' first='Matt' last='Cassidy'], Marlboro's leading rusher, has amassed 639 yards on the ground and 7 rushing touchdowns. Even more impressive, he is making a huge impact on defense as well as he's racked up 39 tackles, an interception and a sack.

While both these teams have amazing talent in the backfield, this does not mean they are one dimensional. Jackson Memorial has a stout defense. Shaun Hubbard has somehow already accumulated double digit sacks, while [player_tooltip player_id='269754' first='Albert' last='D'Alessandro'] has two picks and 52 tackles on the season. Marlboro has a similar pass rusher to Shaun Hubbard in [player_tooltip player_id='999499' first='Mike' last='Consolazio']. Mike has brought the QB down 8 times in 5 games and has 34 tackles to go with it. In the defensive backfield, [player_tooltip player_id='1085723' first='Luke' last='Houston'] has been a menace to opposing QBs by picking the ball off 3 times so far and amassing 25 tackles. There is nothing better than two undefeated teams duking it out in October. This game has the ingredients to be one that goes down to the wire.
