This week on Prep Redzone Oklahoma, we’re putting a spotlight on some of the top 2027 prospects in the state. This is the freshmen class we’re talking about so needless to say, it’s still incredibly early in their high school career. On Monday, we released our initial 2027 watchlist. The first prospect rankings for this class will come out in January. Throughout the week, we’ll be breaking down different position groups and overall standouts in the state’s 2027 class so far. In this post, we’re putting the spotlight on the secondary with three potential ball hawks to keep an eye on moving forward. Keep it locked in throughout the week for more breakdowns on 2027 prospects. And check back every Monday in October for more prospect ranking updates!
Our first prospect to keep an eye on is Blayze Buchanan Blayze Buchanan 5’10” | 120 lbs | DB Holland Hall | 2027 OK out of Holland Hall. Buchanan was a prospect on our radar back in the summer because of his abilities on the track. He’s an absolute burner and the speed part of his game is definitely there. The football aspect is still raw just like a lot of 2027 prospects as he’s just a freshman. But there’s definitely a high ceiling here with Buchanan based on his natural physical attributes. As he continues to develop other aspects of his game on the football field, he’s going to be a very interesting prospect to watch. Out of the three prospects listed, Buchanan might be the most raw but also have the highest ceiling.
Highlights
Owasso has a few prospects in the 2027 class to keep an eye on moving forward and specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Cole Campbell Cole Campbell 6’0″ | 165 lbs | DB Owasso | 2027 OK is a defensive back prospect that has emerged at the safety position for the Rams. He’s jumped into the starting lineup and has been making an impact right away. Campbell is also a standout on the baseball diamond and on the track. He’s showed off that track speed multiple times this season. The Owasso coaches are very excited about his potential moving forward. He started off strong at the JV and freshman level and has elevated his game enough to make an impact at the varsity level this season.
We mentioned earlier in the week how Lincoln Christian’s coaches were very excited about the future of the Bulldogs with some of their standouts in the 2027 class that were already starting. Kailib Dillard Kailib Dillard 6’1″ | 170 lbs | DB Lincoln Christian | 2027 State OK is an example of that in the secondary. Dillard has become one of the team’s leading tacklers and it’s going to be interesting to see how his game develops moving forward. His older brother Mailikai is a sophomore and has become one of the top two-way players in his class. That certainly could be in the future for Kailib considering his experience in the offseason as a wide receiver in 7v7 tournaments. But until then, we have him here as a defensive back.
