It only took six carries for Zion Dobson Zion Dobson 5’10” | 175 lbs | RB Hampton County | 2024 State SC to put together another masterpiece of an outing. He delivered an eye-popping show at home for the second straight week, rushing for 226 yards and two touchdowns with his lightning-quick speed and swift cuts to the outside. He’s a master at making defenders miss with his sudden movements and has the acceleration to fly past defenders in the open field. He also helped out in the receiving game, making a clutch fourth-down catch in the end zone after a terrific play from quarterback Chris Terry. Dobson’s stock is quickly rising as one of the most polished and talented running backs in the state.
Highlights
The Hampton County Hurricanes pitched their second shutout of the season on Friday, and Mandrell Sanders Mandrell Sanders 5’11” | 190 lbs | LB Hampton County | 2025 State SC was the key reason why. The junior linebacker was shot out of a cannon all night, disrupting a well-oiled C.A. Johnson run game. He took matters into his own hands on a key series, making three straight tackles for loss including a sack to force a punt. He’s a high-energy veteran who always seems to make the clutch stops when his teammates need them and has become the heart of a red-hot ‘Canes defense.
Highlights
The stellar junior season continued Friday for Hilton Head breakout running back Troy Timko Troy Timko 5’10” | 200 lbs | RB Hilton Head | 2025 State SC . His strength and power were paramount to his success on the ground, racking up 150 yards and four touchdowns on four carries. Timko did an excellent job at spotting the open lanes and anticipating his defenders’ moves to make his cuts and find open space. He’s evolved into a workhorse back who will battle for every yard while also serving as a spark in the receiving game. He will be the engine for the Seahawks’ offense moving forward and will get an excellent test this Friday against the aforementioned Hampton County defense.
Samari Bonds Samari Bonds 6’1″ | 160 lbs | QB Beaufort | 2025 State SC was off his game last Friday at Hilton Head, but he delivered a monster bounce-back showing on the road in Week 3 for a huge non-region win over Goose Creek. Bonds came up clutch with his legs in the biggest moments, breaking loose for a game-winning 44-yard rushing touchdown to top the Gators 32-25. He picked it up in the passing game as well, showing great poise and slinging an accurate ball to Jaemin Odom for a 25-yard score. It’s a huge momentum-building performance for Bonds as he prepares for a familiar May River side on Friday.
The James Island Trojans have picked up right where they left off from 2022 with a 4-0 start thanks to the electric play of two-way sensation Amontrae Scott Amontrae Scott 5’11” | 180 lbs | ATH James Island | 2024 State SC . The athletic senior wideout and corner dazzled with an efficient game on both sides, catching two passes for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 24 rushing yards on two attempts. He also found the end zone on the other side of the ball, notching two interceptions including one to the house for a pick-six. A big play machine with great instincts and the will to outperform the competition, Scott figures to be a problem for Region VII-4A opponents this fall.
Talk about a way to ring in your 15th birthday. Berkeley quarterback Henry Rivers Henry Rivers 5’11” | 160 lbs | QB Berkeley | 2027 State SC celebrated in style on Friday, leading his Stags to an impressive 40-31 win against West Ashley. The young freshman was dialed in for all four quarters, throwing for 321 yards and five total touchdowns while adding another score on the ground. He was brilliant with his reads all night and consistently delivered accurate throws on time. He’s showing some outstanding early signs as a dynamic dual-threat quarterback for the Stags with high potential going forward.
A breakout sophomore sensation on defense, Sawyer Arnold Sawyer Arnold 6’3″ | 185 lbs | DL Oceanside Collegiate | 2026 State SC dominated Marlboro County on Friday in a 34-0 shutout win. He was too much to handle at defensive end, making an impressive four sacks and pouncing on a fumble to lead an excellent Landshark effort. He’s hit the ground running in his sophomore season with a terrific blend of strength and footwork to outhustle his matchups and burst into the backfield. Arnold is quickly becoming a dynamite playmaker for a Landshark team looking like a title contender in Class 2A.
The Iron Horses have rolled through their first four games with some impressive numbers on offense, and senior running back Sharod Williams Sharod Williams 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Philip Simmons | 2024 State SC kept it going on Friday. He made the most of just 10 carries, rushing for 195 yards and two touchdowns as Philip Simmons downed Timberland 37-13. He’s part of a dangerous 1-2 punch with teammate Markellis Ashbury that combined for 339 total rushing yards. It’s been an impressive start for Williams, Ashbury, and an Iron Horses offense that will be a pain to slow down in Region VIII-3A this year.
