This scouting report will focus on Kennedy, who I saw for the first time this season. You can read previous reports on City High players HERE and HERE.
The Iowa Hawkeye commit stands out in a crowd whether he’s walking around the halls of Kennedy High or serving up pancakes on Friday nights. Brooks overpowers opponents. There’s no going through him. Your best bet is going around him. Good luck with that. He moves well and covers a lot of ground. Brooks is physically superior to the competition right now. He has plenty of time to improve his technique and take his game to an even higher level.
This kid can play. He possesses reliable hands and wins contested balls. He’s done the latter in the end zone against Dowling and again in this one. Both plays were big time. Courtney runs crisp routes, getting in and out of breaks quickly. He’s a willing and capable blocker. He can play in college, no doubt, and should be getting more attention.
Trevor Scott
Trevor Scott
Scott forms a potent 1-2 punch with backfield mate Jacob Doyle Jacob Doyle 6’1″ | 210 lbs | RB Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2025 State IA . Scott rushed 26 times for 170 yards, according to Your Prep Sports. That included an 18-yard sprint to the end zone. Scott gets downhill fast and squirts through holes quickly. His strong legs allow him to pick up tough yards inside. He protects the ball well.
The other half of Kennedy’s productive rushing attack, Doyle piled up 166 and two touchdowns on the ground, including a 33-yard scoring jaunt. Doyle does a nice job picking up the tough yards between the tackles but also shows good vision and wiggle when taking the carry outside. He’s a threat in the passing game as well, whether he’s catching the ball or blocking in protection.
Highlights
Gianforte shows excellent command of the Cougar offense. He’s adept at selling play-action and gets through his progressions rapidly. I was impressed with his ability to put the ball in safe places where only his guys can make a play on it. He complete 8 of 15 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in this game. Kennedy relied heavily on a running game that stacked up 348 yards on 59 carries.
Calvin White
Calvin White
White is the younger brother of Iowa running back Max White and the son of Cougar head coach Brian White. He plays like a coach’s kid, technically sound with a high motor and aggressive style. He does all the little things to help a team succeed. He quarterbacks the defense from his middle linebacker position and complements the other running backs. He caught a seven-yard touchdown pass and plowed into the end zone from a yard out on a carry against City.
Bobby Bacon Bobby Bacon 6'0" | QB Iowa City | 2025 IA
Bobby Bacon Bobby Bacon 6'0" | QB Iowa City | 2025 IA
Bacon struggled at times in a game where the Little Hawks were playing catchup, but the junior has performed well overall since replacing injured starter, Drew Larson Drew Larson 6’1″ | 165 lbs | WR Iowa City High | 2024 State IA . Despite tossing a pair of Pick-6s in this contest, he also complete 22 of 29 throws for 321 yards and had a few key drops by his receivers. Bacon shows a live arm with good accuracy. He can move around in the pocket and buy time. I’m interested to see how he develops with more reps.
