It’s nice to have a weapon who can change the tide of a game with his leg, and Tucker Tevepaugh did it on Friday with a pair of beautiful punts to help Hilton Head Christian Academy notch a massive first win. The senior punting extraordinaire showed off his strong leg and pinpoint accuracy, knocking two punts over 60 yards including one inside the 5-yard-line. A top performer in Kohl’s Kicking national punting competitions, Tevepaugh also serves as a quick and athletic safety for Ron Peduzzi’s Eagles. He’s a veteran with many skills who will prove crucial to his squad the rest of the way.
Reid McCollum

The Eagles were looking for an extra spark on defense against a strong Ben Lippen squad, and sophomore Reid McCollum answered the challenge for the Eagles. McCollum put up a monster game on Friday night, making six tackles with two sacks with his high energy and quick pursuit to the backfield. He also dominated in pass coverage, picking off two Ben Lippen throws and returning one to the house for six points. McCollum has emerged as a key versatile piece of an Eagle defense that is starting to find it midway through the season.
Alex Williams

We’ve talked a lot about Beaufort Academy’s high-octane offense so far in 2023, but the defense is getting it done too. Veteran Alex Williams has been the sparkplug on the line, and he excelled on Friday night with 11 tackles including a stop behind the line of scrimmage in a victory over Greenwood Christian. He’s an aggressive player who shows an extra level of strength and footwork to get into the backfield and make timely stops each game. He’ll need to be a leader and producer to shut down the ground game if the Eagles want to finish on top in SCISA 2A this November.
Trinity Collegiate’s scorching-hot offense kept it up on its home field Friday sparked by electric athlete Courtlyn Brunson. His quick burst and agility were too much for Mullins to stop, racking up 177 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries alongside five catches for 26 yards and a receiving score. Brunson is quickly becoming a focal point for the offense and a valuable spark for 8th-grade quarterback Cade Amell. His versatility and elusiveness out wide will be crucial to picking up clutch yards as the games get bigger this fall.
The Trinity defense was flying all night long to shut down Mullins, and junior James Herbert was at the forefront. Herbert made plays everywhere for the Titans, finishing with 15 total tackles on the outing. His vision and quick instincts were on display alongside some hard-nosed physicality with a sack and a forced fumble. A team captain who’s become a valuable leader for the Titans, Herbert will be a key factor for a hard-nosed Trinity Collegiate defense with growing potential.

Tony O’Banner
Tony O’Banner
One of the best pure running backs in SCISA 1A, Tony O’Banner has developed into even more of a weapon for the Thomas Heyward Rebels this year. Taking over at quarterback, O’Banner showed off his signature burst of speed and elusiveness to help the Rebels nab their first win of the season against St. John’s Christian. He totaled 231 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries while going an efficient 5-of-8 through the air. Expect O’Banner to be the driving force of a Thomas Heyward offense looking to keep up in an improved SCISA 1A field.
