If you liked offensive football, Friday night’s game featuring 3A’s #2 Lincoln Christian and 2A’s #3 Jones was the game for you. The Bulldogs could not be stopped as they racked up nearly 600 yards of total offense in a 56-34 victory on the road. The Longhorns didn’t back down from the high-scoring affair, they lit up the scoreboard and put up plenty of yards as well but it just wasn’t enough. The Bulldogs threw for nearly 300 yards and also had two players finish with well over 100 yards rushing.
On Lincoln Christian’s first offensive play in the first quarter, senior running back Moses Fullingim Moses Fullingim 6'0" | 195 lbs | RB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK took the ball and went 91 yards for the game’s opening touchdown. That was the first of many quick strikes for Lincoln as they put up 35 points in the first half with only 17 offensive snaps. Their second possession ended in another touchdown as Sawyer Brooks Sawyer Brooks 5'10" | ATH Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK went 51 yards for a score on the second play of the drive. Jones would fight back with a touchdown of their own but Lincoln would make it look easy again, scoring on a Luke Milligan Luke Milligan 6'2" | 185 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK touchdown to Brooks to lead 21-6 after one quarter.
The Longhorns would again respond with a touchdown of their own and then it felt like they had some momentum. Lincoln Christian’s only offensive blunder in the first half was an interception on a tipped pass but they couldn’t take advantage and they turned it back over to Lincoln. The Bulldogs would score two more times before halftime, including a drive that began with just 42 seconds on the clock to lead 35-20 at the half.
Lincoln Christian might have struggled on offense last week in the win over Holland Hall but there were no struggles on Friday night. The Bulldogs scored on their first three possessions and then on five straight possessions after the interception on the tipped pass. They led by 30 points at one point and rolled to the 56-34 victory. Both teams continue their tough non-district schedules next week. Lincoln Christian hosts another 2A top ten team in Vian and Jones will square off with 2A’s top-ranked Washington in a rematch of a semifinal match-up from a year ago.
LINCOLN CHRISTIAN’S TOP PERFORMERS
When a team racks up over 300 yards on the ground, you have to tip your cap to the offensive line. And 2024 offensive lineman David Smithwick David Smithwick 6’4″ | 265 lbs | OL Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK is one of the leaders along the line of scrimmage at left tackle. We knew coming into this season that Lincoln had a very experienced and talented offensive line and it could really pave the way for another explosive Bulldog offense. Smithwick certainly did his job on Friday night but he was also disruptive at times on the defensive line. Jones had to work hard for everything on the ground. They only had two runs of double digit yardage and Smithwick and the Lincoln front seven really set the tone early on. Smithwick led a dominant performance on both sides.
This match-up featured two of the best 2024 quarterbacks in the state with Lincoln’s Luke Milligan Luke Milligan 6’2″ | 185 lbs | QB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK and Jones’ Clayton Creasey Clayton Creasey 6’1″ | 195 lbs | QB Jones | 2024 State OK , who just committed to UCO on Thursday. Milligan made it look easy on Friday night as he would torch the Jones defense early and often in the passing game. He finished the game with 292 yards and four touchdowns on 12-20 passing. Milligan was in complete control of the Bulldog offense and their balance in the pass and run game was something that you just don’t see very often. Milligan has been an impressive quarterback for over a year now and he should be able to put up some monster numbers this year. He was incredibly efficient throughout the night on Friday.
Highlights
Lincoln Christian head coach Jerry Ricke told us before the game that he was very excited about some of the younger players they had coming up. The Bulldogs started several freshmen and it’s clear that the future is bright at Lincoln. But 2026 wide receiver and defensive back Malaki Dillard was a sophomore that really stood out to us on Friday night. He first jumped off the board when he made a magnificent interception, keeping Jones out of the end zone in the process. He climbed the ladder and made a play on a ball that we thought was an easy Jones touchdown. On offense, he also finished with nearly 100 yards on three catches and a touchdown. He has the potential to be their leading receiver this fall.
After seeing what Lincoln Christian did with John Washington at running back last season and then seeing 2024 running back Moses Fullingim Moses Fullingim 6’0″ | 195 lbs | RB Lincoln Christian | 2024 State OK in the spring, we were incredibly high on him being a breakout star for the Lincoln offense. He looked the part on Friday night as he was arguably their best weapon on the offensive side of the ball. He took Lincoln’s first offensive play 91 yards to the house and that was just the start of a dominant night for the Lincoln senior. Fullingim would finish with 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries. He also added 99 yards on four catches and a touchdown receiving. With Lincoln’s offensive line and Fullingim’s ability, he’s going to have a big season.
