The most impressive thing is most are underclassman including two that are just in their freshman season. Here is a list of the 6 QBs in alphabetical order by school name.
Bowdon Red Devils
Kyler McGrinn-2024
The Senior transfer from Alabama has been one of the top newcomers to our area in 2023. The dual threat QB is a workout warrior and has the strength and speed to break tackles and out run the defense. The 6’0 195 McGrinn has been an efficient passer also. Through the 1st 4 games he is 41 of 65 with 4 passing TDs and 471 yards. The ground game is where he is most dangerous. He has carried the ball 72 times for 512 yards and has scored 5 rushing touchdowns for the defending State Champs. He definitely has the ability to play multiple positions at the next level, DB RB Slot. Worth an evaluation if you are looking for a multidimensional athlete with great work ethic.
Carrollton Trojans
Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis-2026
There is not much to add that hasn’t already been written or said about the #1 ranked National recruit in the 2026 Class. He was named the Maxprep National Player of the Year last season after leading the Trojans to the 7A State Championship. Poised in the pocket and can make all the throws. Lewis has a special documentary about him coming out soon and was on the most recent cover of Sports Illustrated. Lewis committed to USC earlier this month and definitely has the potential to play at the next level beyond the next level.
Central Lions
JR Harris JR Harris 5'9" | 165 lbs | QB Central Carrollton | 2027 State GA -2027
The highly touted freshman has lived up to the expectations. He has led the Lions to a 4-0 record to begin the season against good competition. The 5’10 Harris has great pocket presence and has the mobility to avoid the pass rush with his feet. Strong, accurate passer that can make all the throws. Through the 1st 4 games he has thrown for close to 600 yards with 7 TDs and added 200 yards on the ground with 5 TDs. Bright future for this young man.
Mt. Zion Eagles
Knox Israel-2027
The 5’11 Freshman is an under the radar guy in a county loaded with big name QBs. Outstanding game manager in a Wing Type offense that relies on misdirection and is heavily reliant on the run game. Has been very effective when called on to throw the ball, completing 20 of 30 passes for 332 yards and 5 touchdowns and helping lead the Eagles to a 3-0 start to the season. Most important stat is 0 turnovers. The coaching staff at Mt. Zion is high on this kid and his future with the Eagles.
Temple Tigers
Jackson Gribben-2026
Talk about stepping up to the pressure! Gribben took over the QB1 spot this season replacing one of the best overall players in our Area, Cam Vaughn, who was lost to graduation in the Spring. He helped the Tigers get off to a 3-0 start before running into a ranked AAA Lumpkin Co team last week. Managed the games well, especially in the three wins, and has a good stable of running backs behind him to hand the ball off to. In the 3 Tiger wins he was 10 of 20 with 5 TDs and threw 246 yards. No doubt Gribben and the Tigers will rebound from last week as they eye a Region Title and a deep playoff run later this Fall.
Villa Rica Wildcats
Zhay’lyn Bell-2025
Bell is an athlete that caught our attention in the preseason with his length and athleticism at 6’5 205. The Wildcats have played a heck of a schedule to start the season playing three ranked teams in a row, including 7A powerhouse Carrollton. The dual threat QB is not afraid to tuck and run and does a good job getting North to South. Has a good receiving corp and he can air the long throws out and give his guys a chance to track it down. Villa Rica maybe the best 1-2 team in NW/W Georgia and I believe Bell will get plenty of opportunities this Fall to display his potential.
