Byron Center Scouting Report vs. FHC

<p>Yesterday night we were treated with one of the best OK Conference games of the season. A battle that would likely decide the OK White, 4-0 Byron Center squared off against 4-0 Forest Hills Central. This game was star-studded with many notable names on the FHC side, but also many rising stars for Byron Center. In the final 20 seconds, Byron Center scored a touchdown and converted a game-winning 2-pt conversion, pulling off a big upset. This was a well-coached game from Byron Center, and the overall discipline and fundamental prowess of this team was impressive. Here, I'll be evaluating four Byron Center players that I kept a close eye on! </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">QB | [player_tooltip player_id='899559' first='Landon' last='Tungate'] | <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/16171291/Landon-T-Tungate/about">Hudl</a></h2>   <p>I had heard good things here and there about Landon, and I'm so glad I got to see him perform in person. Landon made play after play in this game, and made a few critical plays down the stretch on 3rd and 4th down that won Byron Center this game. His greatest strength is his ability to extend the play, weaving around pass rushers while his eyes remain downfield. Once he saw a man open, he threw he ball, oftentimes on the run. His passes were generally very accurate with a few throws being perfectly placed right over the outstretched hands of a defender. The one noticeable negative I can say is that I didn't see a ton of demonstration regarding reading a defense or throwing with anticipation. Landon is an extremely fun to watch High School QB, and he has the chance to develop into a Division 3 Quarterback with increased game IQ. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img src="https://prepredzone.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2023/09/BCQB-crop-1422x934-1695500799.jpg?w=800" alt="" class="wp-image-1010199" style="width:349px;height:229px" width="349" height="229" /></figure>    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">WR/DB | [player_tooltip player_id='602273' first='Isaac' last='Lee'] | <a href="https://www.hudl.com/profile/16761462/Isaac-Lee/about">Hudl</a></h2>   <p>Isaac was the MVP of the game. I didn't keep track of exact stats, but if I had to guess, Isaac caught 8+ passes for 150yds. Not only was Isaac the top target, but he also got himself open countless times as Landon extended the play. There were multiple times where Isaac had completed his route and was left to improvise to find some open space, and when he did, Landon found him. His IQ, hands, and open-field ability are the things that stood out most to me. He also came down with in interception on defense where he high-pointed the ball and stole it from the receiver and another defender. This was a great, swarming unit that applied pressure and held a very good FHC offense to 14 points. That said, I did see [player_tooltip player_id='1255765' first='Luke' last='Laska'] running all over the field and making big plays from his linebacker position. One thing that stood out to me was his ability to make sound tackles and not allow the ballcarrier to fall forward. He came on a few blitz's, and defended the outside runs / screens well. He came out with an injury late in the 3rd quarter, and that's when the BC defense started to show a few wrinkles. Great game by Luke and I'm looking forward to seeing some film on him soon! </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">OL | [player_tooltip player_id='1290896' first='Jackson' last='Bovia'] | (No Hudl or X found) </h2>   <p>Jackson was the most impressive lineman that I watched closely. From the first series, I specifically watched the Sophomore as he took on a great front 7. The first play I watched, he pancaked the opposing defensive end. As I kept watching Jackson, he kept making great blocks in the run game. There was only one rep that I watched where he lost, and even then, the defender did not make the tackle. Jackson dominated the run game most of the time, and even on pass blocks, he was above average for HSFB standards. With a bit more work with pass blocking as well as playing with an edge in the run game, he'll develop into a great college prospect. </p>   <p>One more thing- I noticed Jackson was a pretty vocal leader on the sidelines. He wasn't always specifically hyping up his teammates, but he had an outward energy and passion that seemed to radiate throughout the team.
