Over the next few weeks, you can expect the South GA coverage to kick up as we try to highlight as many players south of Atlanta as possible. This time around, we will take a look at several prospects who bring something unique to the table.

Camden Hicks - 2024 - WR - Appling County

Hicks is an intriguing size/speed combo on the outside who is a verified track athlete and has clocked analytic speed of 21.6 MPH. At 6'2 180 with that ability to move, Hicks is absolutely a prospect who has emerged on my radar. He spends most of his time on the outside, but he can absolutely line up in the slot where he can threaten the seam. Hicks isn't a super twitchy route runner nor does he have a super complex package of moves to run underneath routes. Instead, he is simply a "run by you" receiver who can go up and get it downfield. Against press coverage, he is able to create enough deception off the snap to get the DB off his platform and run right by him. Against off-man or zone coverage, he can completely eviscerate cushion between himself and the defender, climbing the secondary and quickly accelerating behind the safeties. Hicks is a prime jump-ball candidate, showcasing the springiness in his legs and focus to go up and high point the ball over DBs. At 6'2, he has a wide enough catch radius to consistently make those kinds of plays. Over his shoulder, Hicks also shows great focus and can readjust to the ball path well. Hicks might not be a high-volume receiver at the next level, but he can absolutely pop some explosive plays thanks to his ability to take the top off the defense.

Jacarre' Fleming - 2024 - RB - Lowndes

Fleming is an extremely athletic RB with a 10.8 100m time and finished his junior season with over 1,000 AP yards. As a senior, it looks like he is starting to develop into a more imposing runner between the tackles who can stay on the field for every snap. I was impressed with Fleming's vision, patience, and reactionary skills on tape. He has excellent vision in his peripherals and great spatial awareness. He is aware of where the defenders are at all times, including the backside defenders trying to flag him down as he scampers downfield. We can actually see this on film with his darting eyes as he dances around defenders and fights for extra yards. He has the awareness to know when to continue riding his blocks through the first level vs. when to bounce the ball outside. He has the speed and acceleration to quickly force his way into vacant areas in the defense and outrun defenders to the outside. Between the tackles, he is light on his feet and can get skinny to slip out to the second level. Both around the line of scrimmage and downfield, he has good footwork and shimmy which generates weak tackling attempts which he can then shrug off and exploit. He is a balanced runner who recovers nicely and is an expert at finding grass. I have an FBS grade on Fleming and believe his pass-catching and special teams upside makes him an intriguing addition for any RB room.

Herbert Scroggins III - 2025 - DE/EDGE - Benedictine

Scroggins is a productive, dynamic edge defender with excellent speed and spatial awareness coming off the edge and in space. Scroggins is a legit pass rusher, backed up by productive numbers on the varsity level. He comes in at 6'3 230, checking plenty of size, length, and weight boxes to line up at EDGE at the next level. Scroggins is an energetic pass rusher, playing each rep with intent. He does a good job of deceiving blockers with his footwork and by slow playing. This gives him a firm platform to showcase his athleticism as a pass rusher. Most of his block-shedding ability comes from an arm-over-move, breaking from the grasp of the blocker and showing good bend at the top of his rush to win around the arc and get upfield after the QB. From there, the rush is on. He frequently causes QBs to bail, which leads to sacks or errant decisions by the QB. This also allows him to flush the football toward some of his teammates to make a play. Against the run, Scroggins does have some edge-setting upside. He strikes with good pad level and gets good extension with his reach, which also helps him rush the passer. Most of his rush defense comes when he backs off the LOS and plays in space. From there, Scroggins has the spatial awareness to piece his way around blocks, sit down in a pocket, and make a tackle by playing disciplined football. Scroggins is a plus-pass rusher with the ability to play in space. He holds several FBS offers and will be firmly on P5 radars this time next year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1091478' first='Barton' last='Mixon'] - 2025 - QB - Savannah Country Day

Mixon is off to a hot start in 2023, popping onto the radar as a highly consistent and reliable high-volume passer. Mixon is a solid athlete who can extend plays in the pocket and move the chains with his legs if needed. He isn't a scrambler or a particularly dangerous runner, but he has the athletic profile to keep defenses more than honest with his legs. With his delivery, Mixon throws off a firm base with a clean release. He could add some more velocity to the ball if he fires his hips a little more, but even now, he has the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows and reach the holeshot. He is a touch-ball thrower, putting plenty of air under the ball, tossing it to a landmark, and letting his receiver go up and make a play. Mixon throws well on the run too, playing with his upper body detached from his lower body and generating the rotational energy to power the ball out of his hand. He has plus physical and athletic traits, but Mixon flashes as a processor. On tape, he shows that he is capable of looking off defenders and making throws past his first read without getting finicky in the pocket. When having to create and extend, Mixon is able to get his eyes downfield and bend the ball around defenders into soft spots. I like what I see on tape from Mixon and believe he is a D1-caliber QB prospect. Despite playing at a lower classification, he is dominating the opposition and still has another year of development ahead of him.
