Continue ReadingTristan Carter has great instincts and somehow always around the football. This is not by mistake due to his see ball hit ball mentality. He creates turnovers and once he takes his read steps, he reacts like a cobra ready to strike, not wasting any time to make contact on the ball carrier. Tristan also has the speed to cover running backs or tight ends out the backfield. Has had experience playing both inside and outside backer, but my money goes to developing into the latter. This will be a big bounce back year after suffering an ACL and this kid is already off to a good start.

The Carrollton Trojans are loaded with elite talent and 6’0 165 lb. linebacker Steven McClendon Steven McClendon 6’0″ | 165 lbs | LB Carrollton | 2028 GA is a part of that select group. McClendon is long, fast, and athletic. Offensive coordinators definitely need to account for this young man and where he will be each play. The problem is, where he starts doesn’t have any impact on where he finishes. McClendon is a threat sideline to sideline. Run at him, he wants the smoke. Try to run outside, he’s too fast for that. Run away, his high motor with track you down. There is not mistake that he has received Player of the Year honors along with Best Linebacker. With high school being around the corner, I would not be surprised if he keeps shooting upward in height, he plays some stand up D-End or be used as a Hybrid OLB.
Half of the battle sometimes is looking the part for a players psyche. Cooper has that covered in his 5’9 etched out muscular frame. Some throw him into the “ATH” category because of what all he can do. Right now he is leading his team to an undefeated season so far playing some linebacker. Cooper is a physical specimen who has the ball skills to turn into a very good strong safety as well if he wanted to in high school. He is a second effort type kid who moves so well laterally. At the point of contact, do not expect his feet to stop running. Seeing him play in space during 7on7 and playing a little offense is testament to how athletic he really is.
South Forsyth Middle School football staff sees something in Lucas Sherwood Lucas Sherwood 5’7″ | 160 lbs | LB GA that you wouldn’t notice at first glance until you watched him play ball. What some don’t have in size, they make up in heart. Lucas is a 5’6 140 pound dog. I didn’t say football player because he’ll play any position that will help his team. He plays linebacker and guard at his size that reflects his tough as nails attitude. I’ll state the obvious that he will most likely find a home down the road in the secondary, but in the meantime he’s learning techniques and getting experience that will only separate him in the long run.

You always need a few players who pride themselves on doing the dirty work. In front of the line at Liberty Middle School stands Colton Brasher Colton Brasher 5’10” | 150 lbs | LB Liberty | 2028 GA . His name even sounds the part. He is an aggressive no nonsense linebacker who knows how to get from point A, to point B with a purpose. Standing at 5’10 allows him to easily glance over his defensive lineman into his preys eyes before shooting his gap like a bullet. Colton is smart, high energy, and finishes tackles. When coaches say DYJ (“Do Your Job”) you don’t have to worry about #5 because he is probably doing his and more. I like that he plays running back on offense and he lead blocks the same way he comes downhill on his run fits. Be ready for a collision when meeting up with Mr. Brasher!
