Below are a way-to-early list of quarterbacks who are in contention for the state’s quarterback of the year. With so many to pick from, I only limited myself to select five to highlight.
Orange’s senior signal caller is off to one helluva start this season. Leading the Tornados to a 3-1 record thus far, with their only loss coming on the road at Bayonne, Williams has gone 60 of 99 for 1139 yards. He currently leads the state with 17 touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for nearly 10 yards a carry with 250 yards and 3 scores on the ground.

While Williams tears up Essex County, Lyons is doing the same in Atlantic County. The senior quarterback for the Atlantic City Vikings is off to a tremendous start as well, completing 63 of 98 passing attempts for 999 yards. He has tossed 13 touchdowns to only 4 picks and added 1 score on the ground. He has been a vital part of a 3-1 Atlantic City Vikings’ start this season.

Representing the Big Central is Pacheco, Somerville’s junior gunslinger. In what has been described to me as a vertical passing team, Pacheco has led the Pioneers to a 3-1 record with their only loss coming to an undefeated Montgomery team in a one-possession game. For the season Pacheco has passed for 910 yards while compeleting 44 of 75 passes. Most impressively, he has a perfect 10:0 touchdown to interception ratio and scored twice on the ground.
We keep getting younger and younger as this list goes on, as Willingboro’s Best is the next prospect to be considered for quarterback of the year. Willingboro is 2-2 with those two losses coming at a combined 11 points. Best has simply been at his best this season, as he has thrown 12 touchdowns, ran for 3 more scores, and thrown just 2 picks. He is 55 of 87 for 897 yards on the season.

This last selections should come as no surprise to those who have been following. Winslow’s Parker is the youngest quarterback on today’s list. Guiding Winslow to a 3-1 record, their the only loss has been a 2-point week 0 loss on the road to Cherokee in the freshman’s first high school game. All in all, Parker is 57 of 95 for 989 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has thrown three interceptions and rushed for one score.
