demonstrated that his mental acumen matches his physical prowess. Not only did he repeatedly secure first downs as a runner, showcasing his speed and strength to gain substantial yards after contact, but he also exhibited exceptional game-management skills. In critical moments, his awareness of time and situational strategy allowed him to effectively manage the clock and secure the win. I was thoroughly impressed with his clutch performance. Williams is now taking his talents to Wagner.

Unfortunately I was unable to find Williams’ highlight tape from his senior, so this evaluation is based off of his junior year’s film.
The first thing that jumped out to me about Williams is how smooth his ball looks when he throws it. Not one throw had less than a perfect spiral. He has a quick throwing motion and thus a quick release and is extremely accurate when given time in the pocket. He hits his guys in stride. Moreover, he completes many passes with outstanding touch, placing it right between defenders yet never leaving his receivers out to dry. When things break down in the pocket, Williams has exceptional balance as a runner to stay upright, while also keeping his eyes downfield for an open target. If he must, he will scramble – making defenders often look silly in the process. Williams has shown that he can complete passes when rolling out to his left, where he has shown he will reset his feet before throwing.
Williams’ film would benefit from showing clips of him going through his progression and route tree. I would like to see him get a little more lower body torque on his throws. This would add distance and power to his already strong arm.

Maurice Williams Jr., quarterback from Orange High School, made a significant impact this season by breaking notable records. With an impressive 51 passing touchdowns, he established a new single-season record for Orange High School. Additionally, Maurice surpassed his brother’s achievement, setting a new school record for career passing yards at 5037. Despite his dynamic play, Maurice recognizes areas for improvement in the offseason, focusing on mechanics, out-of-structure play, and decision-making. This outstanding performance has elevated his status, and while he retains offers from LIU, his college commitment is awaited.

As a regional scout I try my hardest to spread the love and write about a breadth of talent; however, the season Orange’s Williams is having makes my job extremely difficult, for the Tornado’s quarterback is having a season you simply cannot ignore. This week at Barringer, a 50-37 win, Williams finished second in the state in passing yardage (326) and first in the state in touchdown throws (5). He also ran 11 times for 100 yards. His season totals are now 84 for 135 with 1465 yards and 22 touchdowns to 2 interceptions.

Orange’s senior signal caller is off to one helluva start this season. Leading the Tornados to a 3-1 record thus far, with their only loss coming on the road at Bayonne, Williams has gone 60 of 99 for 1139 yards. He currently leads the state with 17 touchdowns while only throwing two interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for nearly 10 yards a carry with 250 yards and 3 scores on the ground.

Following up an offensive explosion against Wayne Hills during week 0, Williams proved his performance was no fluke in week 1. against Patterson Kennedy, the senior quarterback was 11 for 21 with 321 yards, averaging just under a whopping 30 yards per completion. Amazingly, 6 of his 11 completions went for touchdown passes. He threw 1 interception while also rushing for 63 yards and 1 score in a 50-0 victory.

Williams has started the season on a tear as he’s already thrown for more than 700 yards and 11 touchdowns during the first two weeks of the season. This past week he was 11 of 21 for 321 yards and six touchdowns — tops in the state. He also rushed the ball six times for 63 yards and a score as Orange shutout Paterson Kennedy 50-0.
