Williams chased his 309-yard rushing performance from last Friday with 169 Thursday against North Central, while Poston added four more touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) to his resume early this season.
It equated to a 46-18 win over North Central at home.
“It’s a high bar,” Williams said of his opening two games this season. “We have great line and they block well. They get after it.”
While both of the Raiders’ stars were able to joke about the grass not being mowed and it slowing them down, there were no signs of anything but another night of considerable production.
Like last week – when Williams didn’t start after missing time due to a baseball conflict – he didn’t necessarily start with a bang against the Knights. North Central put extra emphasis in the box and after Williams’ first four carries, he had only six yards.
However, once Poston started zipping a few passes, it opened up windows, including the one Williams exploited for a 78-yard second-quarter score to push him north of 100 yards in the half. After returning the kickoff to open the second half inside the Knights’ 40-yard line, he then capped off a six-play drive with his second touchdown run of the game, this time from 3 yards out.
Poston finished seven-of-nine for 168 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also rushed seven times for 34 yards, two more scores and a pair of two-point conversions.
He did have two interceptions – including one that set up North Central’s only score before halftime. The other was on a two-point conversion attempt.
Neither was of any consequence, given what he and Williams were able to accomplish again leading this offense.
“We’re experienced. We have a lot of people who came back from last year,” Poston said. “We’ve learned and we’re hungry. You should definitely expect it.”
OTHER HANNAH-PAMPLICO NOTABLES
JT Thompkins WR – Poston’s favorite target showed he could slip behind corners and fend them off in tight quarters. He had four receptions for 93 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown.
Kei’Monti Wilson LB/RB – The 6-foot-2 sophomore has the makings of an eventual rush end once he puts on a little more weight. Still, he was highly active on both sides of the ball Thursday. In addition to a handful of carries, he also had two tackles for loss that put the Knights behind the sticks on multiple first-half series.
Darius Williams RB – The sophomore backup is going to get plenty of carries this year, and in the second half alone, he made his nine touches count, piling up 63 yards. His last carry was a 22-yarder that put the Raiders on the 1-yard line. Poston scored on the next play.
NORTH CENTRAL NOTABLES
Casey Shropshire Casey Shropshire 5'9" | 170 lbs | RB North Central | 2024 State SC RB – Like Williams, Shropshire had a big season opener last week when he went for 201 yards and three scores. He was effective at times against Hannah-Pamplico, as he finished with 20 carries for 138 yards and a touchdown.
Ethan Diles DB – The 6-foot-4, 190-pound hybrid defensive back set up Shropshire’s first-quarter touchdown when he picked off a pass and returned it 69 yards to the 2-yard line. Shropshire scored two plays later.
Jordan Joe Jordan Joe 6'4" | 180 lbs | DB North Central | 2025 State SC WR – While three receptions for 59 yards isn’t going to light up many stat sheets, Joe’s two second-half grabs were both acrobatic in nature. One went for 26 yards and the other 35. He also returned a fourth-quarter punt 35 yards for the Knights’ third touchdown of the game.
