When the Fort Dorchester Patriots were looking for a spark on Friday night, wide receiver Mul-ty Snider Mul-ty Snider 6’0″ | 160 lbs | WR Fort Dorchester | 2024 State SC came up huge to turn the tide. On a long third-down play with the offense in need of a conversion, Snider caught a screen pass and made some magic happen with his legs, outrunning a host of Beaufort defenders for a 73-yard score. He was the go-to target all night when the Patriots needed to move the chains, finishing with five catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. He’s an excellent pass-catcher who can fly down the field if the defense isn’t careful and will be dangerous every time the ball finds his hands this year.
A catalyst on the ground for the Patriots’ offense, Ryan Campbell was impressively efficient every time his number was called on Friday night. He turned just seven carries into 53 yards and two touchdowns to help rally his team back from a 10-point second-half deficit at Beaufort. His quick burst towards the hole and fast change of direction helps him outmaneuver defenders and find open lanes. He’ll be a threat in the red zone and beyond as an excellent complement to Davian Brown if he keeps this up.

? The Beaufort Academy senior has become a superstar this year on both sides of the ball and just keeps putting up highlight-reel plays. He did it again to push the Eagles to 3-0 in a shutout of Hilton Head Prep, providing an eye-popping presence on the ground and being a physical menace on the defensive side. Green’s veteran experience at the SCISA level and nonstop talent could be the difference in putting BA over the top this year in Class 2A. Oh, and by the way, you might want to check out this one-handed pick six from last week’s win over Pinewood Prep.

. The workhorse junior running back dominated against Georgia foe Claxton on Friday to the tune of 234 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on 31 carries alongside three catches for 68 yards. A strong and physical runner who is hard to bring down, Timko is becoming a tone-setter on the offensive side to complement the emerging play of senior quarterback Jackson Bibee. They’ll have the opportunity for a statement game on Friday against a surprising 0-2 Beaufort team.
Hilton Head’s defense has also shown out through its first two games, and it all starts with monstrous lineman Shaikh Thompson. He was a key presence to shut down the Tigers’ run game, finishing with 5.5 tackles and providing non-stop pressure on the Claxton line. His measurables and talent impressed in the offseason last spring, and he’s translating his skills back into in-game action for the Seahawks. He will be a vocal leader with his communication and drive on the field as his team looks to surprise in Region VII-4A this year.

The Philip Simmons Iron Horses ran all over St. James on Friday, and it was thanks to a one-two punch of KJ Asbury and Sharod Williams Sharod Williams 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Philip Simmons | 2024 State SC . Asbury went off for 202 rushing yards on the ground with two scores, while Williams totaled 190 on the ground with three trips to the end zone. All five touchdowns were of the explosive variety, coming from 38 yards out from the goal line or farther. With credit to a tremendous effort from their offensive line, Asbury and Williams both displayed their electricity on the ground against a Sharks defense that had no answer. A continued strong run game could spell trouble for opponents in a very intriguing Region VIII-3A.
Sharod Williams Sharod Williams 5’10” | 195 lbs | RB Philip Simmons | 2024 State SC was dialed in on Friday night, finding the end zone three times from 68,38, and 57 yards out. Both should see lots of work going forward as the Iron Horses push towards region play.
Davon Evans
Davon Evans
Whale Branch had everything rolling in its season-opening win over North Charleston on Thursday, and the tone was set on the defensive side by junior Davon Evans. The budding linebacker was a monster wrapping up tackles, finishing with an impressive nine solo stops for the Warriors. He’s already taken a huge leap with his game and displays the confidence and willpower to win with his physicality and track down the ball-carrier. A big year from Evans could be enormous to an already-talented core on Jerry Hatcher’s squad.
After seeing the hype spread around the state this offseason, the Summerville Green Wave backed it up with a solid first win over Carolina Forest on Friday thanks to the excellent play of quarterback Jaden Cummings. He was efficient and accurate through the air in his first test of the season, completing 15-of-25 passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns. A strong decision-maker with the football and a great competitor out on the field, Cummings has what it takes to elevate his play and make the big throws to extend drives. He’ll be counted upon to be a leader and example-setter for a Green Wave team with high expectations in 2023.
