We are continuing to find guys now that the season has begun, but these 10 players have played themselves into our elite initial top 10. Many already hold division one opportunities, but are bound to blow up on a national scale due to production and age.
Here it goes…
A defensive back with college ready size and athleticism already, Bralan Womack Bralan Womack 6’0″ | 195 lbs | DB Hartfield Academy | 2026 State MS comes in as our initial first overall player for the class of 2026. Womack has impressive technique for his age, easily mirroring receivers when he is at cornerback and displaying some great tackling ability and run support when he is at safety. The sophomore has some of the best ball skills in the state as well. Womack currently holds offers from Georgia, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Missouri.
A 6’7″ defensive end, JaReylan McCoy JaReylan McCoy 6’7″ | 265 lbs | DL Tupelo | 2026 State MS has been a sought after prospect since his 8th grade year in middle school. McCoy has a rare blend of power and speed that allow him to simply take over a game on defense. He uses his hands well and has a variety of pass rush moves, as well as successfully stacks and sheds versus the run. McCoy has a high motor and can generate a ton of havoc for opposing offenses for all four quarters. He currently holds offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn, Kentucky, and others.
Totaling over 1,000 yards receiving in his first year of high school football, O’Mari Johnson O’Mari Johnson 6’1″ | 170 lbs | WR Wesson | 2026 State MS is a rare talent on the offensive side of the football. Johnson was force fed the ball through the run game and the pass game, allowing him to put up 24 total touchdowns. The sophomore stands at 6’0″ 180 and has a wirey frame he is not finished growing into yet. In the open field, Johnson is an absolute playmaker capable of taking a typical short gain all the way to the house at any point. He has great hands and a natural knack for route running. Johnson currently holds offers from LSU, Tennessee, FSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and others.
A 6’5″ 285 pound right tackle out of Holmes County, Donel Robinson Donel Robinson 6’5″ | 290 lbs | OL Holmes County Central | 2026 State MS has “national recruit” written all over him. The sophomore bends well into his stance and shows little to no stiffness in his game – this guy is as naturally athletic as they come. Robinson moves well in space and displays the ability to pull in gap scheme runs and contribute as a lead blocker in the screen game. Outside of his athleticism, Robinson is naturally strong and powerful, and will only get stronger over the years. He currently holds offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia Tech, and others.
With 46 catches for 812 yards and 9 TDs as a freshman, Xavier McDonald Xavier McDonald 6’3″ | 165 lbs | WR Morton | 2026 State MS was one of the top wide outs in the state during his freshman year. The 6’3″ playmaker has the size and speed that everybody in the country is after. Although he is still developing as a route runner, the athleticism he puts on tape is freakish. McDonald has the speed to out run any defensive back in Mississippi and can score from anywhere on the field. You simply cannot leave him one on one without safety help. McDonald also has natural hands with the ability to high point the football. He currently holds offers from LSU, Penn State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Jackson State.
A mammoth guard for one of the best teams in the state, Mitchell Smith Mitchell Smith 6’5″ | 300 lbs | OL Picayune | 2026 State MS made himself known to recruiting circles after winning a state championship in his freshman year. Smith stands at 6’5″ 300 and has a great frame to recruit already. Smith is a typical road grading offensive lineman that plays with a nasty chip on his shoulder. This is the type of guy that will use his shear natural strength to dominate anybody who he comes across. Smith is explosive off the football and plays with good pad level. He currently lists offers from Arkansas and Mississippi State, but watch for more teams to get involved during his sophomore year.
A track star, Sharroid Whitehead Sharroid Whitehead 5’11” | 170 lbs | ATH Ocean Springs | 2026 State MS is the next playmaker to come out of Ocean Springs. Whitehead stands at 5’9″ 165 and came onto the scene early out of middle school. A quarterback at the time, it will be exciting to see how Whitehead is used at the high school level. This guy is lightening in the bottle every time he touches the football. Whitehead has the wiggles and make you miss factor that typically doesn’t come around very often. Holding offers from Tennessee, TCU, Texas Tech, Penn State, and FSU, the sky is the limit for the sophomore.
In the rotation at defensive back for Brandon’s varsity this past season, Preston Ashley Preston Ashley 5’11” | 160 lbs | DB Brandon | 2026 State MS became a known commodity after receiving his first two offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss the summer of his freshman year. The 5’11” 165 pound defensive back has a ton of upside to him and should be a big time playmaker in his sophomore year. Ashley spent most his time at nickel and safety last season and tackled really well in space for his age. In pass coverage, you can see the fluidity in his hips and willingness to jam at the line of scrimmage.
A 6’2″ wide out from Greene County, Jase Mathews Jase Mathews 6’2″ | 180 lbs | WR Greene County | 2026 State MS has some serious break out potential this year. Already equipped with a great year of tape from last year, Mathews has had a great summer along the camp circuit. The long possession receiver has the make up of a college X and should be a go to guy for long yardage situations. Mathews has solid speed in the open field, but has a knack for creating separation in space and at the line of scrimmage. This is a really advanced route runner at a young age. Mathews holds one offer from Ole Miss, but should add attention as the Greene County offense continues to hum.
