Week 2 in the SIAC was full of blowouts and shutouts. The week was not easy for any team due to issues with the great mid-western summer heat. This forced every team to adapt to the heat and adjust their schedules. Great teams are built on adversity. Five teams proved to be able to truly beat the heat and five seemed to struggle. The storylines continue in Week 2 as new players emerge. The following are the scores from Week 2 in the SIAC:

Bosse's Offense is Dominant in Week 2 Victory

I talked about him last week and he outdid himself again in Week 2. Elijah Wagner from Bosse stole the show and ran with it against Central's defense. The senior QB went 13/19, 192 yards, 2 passing TDs, had 8 carries for 79 yards, 1 rushing TD, and a receiving TD! On Friday, Wagner's top two targets were Royal Elliott with 3 receptions for 79 yards and 1 TD and Tizhuan Tomlinson with 5 receptions for 67 yards and 1 TD. Another top performer for the Bulldogs was RB Antonio Floyd with 9 carries, 136 yards, and 3 TDs. Bosse will be tested in Week 3 at home against Castle who comes off a dominating performance in Week 2. Evansville Central is home against an undefeated Memorial squad next Friday.

Memorial's Defense Gives the Huskies Nothing

Memorial shuts down the Huskies offense in Week 2. [player_tooltip player_id='553142' first='Alex' last='Broshears'] and Tanner Gries helped keep a goose egg on the scoreboard on Friday. Tanner Gries led the team with 9 total tackles and a TFL and Broshears had 4 total on the night. Memorial's offense found production in the battle. Luke Ellspermann is impressing me every week and did so in Week 2 with 7 receptions, 135 yards, and 1 TD. Senior RB [player_tooltip player_id='190178' first='Porter' last='Rode'] had 13 carries for 42 yards, 5 catches for 49 yards, and 1 TD. Another great performance from the junior QB Matthew Fisher who went 19/39, 231 yards, and 2 TDs. Memorial will travel to Central in Week 3 and look to continue their unbeaten record. Evansville North looks to get back in the win column in Week 3 against Evansville Harrison at home.

Reitz Continues to Cruise Through the SIAC

FJ Reitz is continuing their dominant performances in the SIAC with another conference win against Vincennes. There were great defensive performances from Reitz on Friday. 2024 LB [player_tooltip player_id='1145959' first='Ayden' last='Wells'] led the pack with 8.5 total tackles and 1 TFL. Levi Oxley looked explosive and disruptive on the edge and ended up with 1 sack, TFL, and a rushing TD on the night. Offensively, Ben Davies went 14/21, 195 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. Roland Vera had another great game on offense bringing in 7 receptions for 81 yards. Glenn Shane had 2 catches for 49 yards, 1 TD, and the catch of the night. Reitz travels to Jasper in Week 3 to keep their streak alive. Vincennes travels back to The Bowl for the second straight week to play Mater Dei.

Castle Bounces Back in a Big Way

The Castle and Mater Dei game every year is usually a tight and contested game. This year, the total opposite. Why? [player_tooltip player_id='322411' first='Antonio' last='Harris'] and the Castle offense. [player_tooltip player_id='322411' first='Antonio' last='Harris'] had 6 carries, 122 yards, 2 TDs, 2 catches, 140 yards, and 2 TDs. That's 8 touches, 262 yards, and 4 TDs! Senior QB [player_tooltip player_id='146759' first='Caden' last='Gordon'] bounced back and went 6/8, 248 yards, and 4 TDs. [player_tooltip player_id='353383' first='Jersey' last='Wells'] was a standout performer for the Knights and brought in 3 catches for 96 yards and 2 TDs. The Castle defense was stifling and held Mater Dei to just 220 yards of total offense. [player_tooltip player_id='539943' first='Benny' last='Patterson'] was dominant in the trenches. [player_tooltip player_id='553140' first='Gavin' last='Leach'] played a solid game at linebacker and ended up with an INT. Castle travels to Bosse looking to continue their winning ways. Mater Dei returns home to get back on track against Vincennes in Week 3.

Jasper Shuts Down Harrison

Jasper shut out Evansville Harrison on the road and re-established their offense. [player_tooltip player_id='930631' first='Carter' last='Holsworth'] took last week's loss personally and made it a priority to get the team back in the winning column. The senior RB had 12 carries, 133 yards, and 3 TDs. Jasper's O-Line did a great job paving the way for the ball carriers. Jasper's defense looked great all night and the score showed. Jasper is back home against the reigning SIAC champs in Week 3. Harrison is on the road against Evansville North looking to score their first points of the season.
