Here’s a look at which guys stood out here on Friday:
Tran started his first game for the Clippers after transferring in from Iowa City High. The Clippers rushed 43 times for 40 yards, which made setting up the passing game difficult. Tran finished 12 of 19 for 131 yards with an interception and was held to 13 yards on 8 carries (3.0 sacks). He missed portions of the game with cramping. Tran brings a dual-threat skill set to the table that should produce against defenses less stout than what Marion fields. CCA will need to help him with better blocking as well.
Keller eats up blockers in the middle of the line, helping to free up Clubb and other teammates. He usually is moving forward with a sound base and strong leverage. He recorded a tackle for loss in this game and played a prominent role in limiting Marion to 3.2 yards per rush.
Highlights
Kaleb Diers
Kaleb Diers
Diers is a big dude playing quarterback. He’s not a statue back there, however. He moves well and shows pretty impressive athleticism, which can open doors for him at other positions on the next level. He completed 10 of 21 passes for 100 yards and an interception in this game. He rushed for a two-point conversion and was sacked four times.
Trey Franck
Trey Franck
You won’t find many better all-around football players in the state than Franck. He impacts the game on both sides of the ball and brings an infectious toughness to the field. He’s fast and physical with a great feel for the game. He finished this contest with a touchdown in his lone pass and 43 yards on 10 carries in a defensive battle. He added five solo tackles.
Logan Tilkes
Logan Tilkes
Tilkes stands out for his physicality and high motor. It makes him difficult to block and leads to him often being near the football. He paced the Wolves with 9.0 tackles (8 solo, 1.5 for loss) with 1.5 sacks. Those numbers exceeded what he posted during all of his sophomore season a year ago.
Kylar Whitman
Kylar Whitman
At 6-6, 220, Whitman is a handful as a defensive end. He’s quick and strong. He sets the edge well and pushes the pocket regularly. He recorded 3.0 tackles in this game, including one for loss. Clear Creek Amana tended to run away from him.
